Commercial Description:
Three thousand feet above sea level in the misty mountains of Jamaica, some of the worlds finest Arabica beans are hand picked on their way to becoming Blue Mountain Coffee. Halfway around the world, plump spring barley grows to maturity in the loamy soil of North America while aromatic hops are cutivated to exacting standards. Here in our kettles, these three special ingredients are blended to create a heady mixture of sweet sugar, dark roast, and complex flavor. Please enjoy this brew in moderation.

Aroma is espresso roast, touch of alcohol. Flavor is also espresso roast, alcohol, salty bitterness. Flat and bland, a serious lack of character.

Hoppier and drier than expected. The coffee melded well with the bitter and flavor hops more than I figured it could. The alcohol is very well hidden. Good late winter sipper for sure.

Poured black with a fluffy tan head. Strong aroma of coffee. Lots of coffee in this one. Kind of over powers everything else for me. I would take the Oat and Choklat from ST over this one.

Blackish in color with a medium tan head. Aroma has lots of coffee, some dark chocolate with sugar, cream and a hint of alcohol. Taste is a magnificent sweet blend of dark coffees, sugar, heavy cream, dark chocolate, a smoky/roasty thing going on with a full body to it - thick like Ten Fidy or Expedition. Damn good, Kind of like a Speedway - not as good - but well worth it!! Coffee lovers will not be disappointed.

22 oz. brown bomber bottle. No freshness date seen. Poured out a dark, inky chocolate brown, with slight red highlights around the edges. Aromas are of roasted coffee beans, baking chocolate, some alcohol. Flavors are of bittersweet baking chocolate, strong espresso, pipe tobacco, alcohol. Thick mouthfeel, slick, oily, somewhat chewy. Alcohol is slightly subdued, but sneaks up on you in a hurry. Finishes slight dry, somewhat chalky & roasty, but delicious all the same. Best RIS I’ve had in a while.

Bottle->snifter: Pours a spare head on top of a muddily black body. The malt smells of hay and straw, the hops of herbs and perhaps celery, with the yeast being somewhat sweaty. For an after aroma, I believe I picked up some grape and brown sugar as well. This beer is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, and moderately bitter with a salty tinge to it. The body is medium, texture is slick, the carbonation is flat, 2 and the finish is astringent. I’ve tried home brewing stouts at home with fresh, high quality grounds placed in a sack in the vat. What I found was a hint of a coffee composte-type odor which reminds me of my knock box from my espresso spoils. Not bad, per se, but per se, but that may put some people off. A good beer otherwise, though I’da like to have seen more coffee flavor and aroma.

Bottle courtesy of MRBendo. Thanks!!

Pours a deep dark viscous black with 2 fingers of beautiful deep brown head with lots of very small bubbles.

Aroma of roasted coffee beans, chocolate, malt and burnt barley.

Nice creamy mouthfeel and a HUGE roasty chocolate coffee flavors are apparent and this one finishes with a very nice bittersweet flavor. The flavors all jump out at you, but they all balance perfectly.

I want MORE of this beer, this is fantastic stuff.

Huh...I wasn’t as impressed by this beer as many others on this site. I was really expecting this beer to be quite "big," and I didn’t find it to be that exactly. I thought it a decent beer but it wasn’t as coffee-ish or as malty or as hoppy as I might’ve expected from the billing on its packaging. Nothing wrong with it specifically, it was just a little thin and not very exciting for a bold style from a great brewer that’s 12% ABV. As with most Southern Tier beers, appearance is quite appealing. Body had a dark opaque color, and head was tan and plentiful. Aroma was pretty minimal, but had some dark roastiness and faint coffee smell. Flavor was a bit on the watery side, and had some faint roastiness and coffee flavor. Mouthfeel was a bit thin. I thought this beer was OK, but I couldn’t help but be a bit disappointed in the level of intensity I found inside the bottle. I bought this bottle at 3 Cellars in Franklin, WI.
