IndianaRed (1553), Boise, Idaho, USA Jan 8, 2008 Bottle pours a clear deep black with a modest brown head. Strong sweet chocolate and cofee aroma. Flavors of tootsie roll, coffee and the bite of plenty of IBUs. Still quite sweet and tons of roasted flavor. Delicious. efrumtheidiot (190), Maryland, USA Jan 7, 2008 pours a thick, oily black/brown with a tannish brown head. head is thin. aroma is green coffee beans, roasty dark chocolate, some dark fruits and rich, rich fudgy chocolate. taste is similar to the aroma with lots of coffee beans, almost straight espresso, less of the chocolate flavor and a strong roasty quality. this one might be really good with age. thick, oily mouthfeel with a bitter finish. alcohol is there, it adds a very sweet quality to it. imagine making a batch of espresso that was twice the normal potency and drinking it straight. very nice, i feel. i notice the kahlua that others have pointed out. i really think this would get MUCH better with a year or two of aging. clingman71 (239), Centerville, Ohio, USA Jan 6, 2008 Bottle. WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!! Pours a deep opaque almost black with a brownish head, small in size but thick in density. Huge aroma of roasted malts, coffee, and dark cocoa. Flavor is also huge, coffee and bitter dark chocolate flavors dominate, but ther is a hop bitterness right in there as well. This beer is AWESOME! brewandbbq (269), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jan 3, 2008 Vintage 2005
Pours opaque black with barely translucent mahogany edgework. Barely a trace of head steps up, and brown in color.
Aromatics are a blend of dark chocolate and rich, oily coffee beans. Akin to a fudge-spiked espresso atop an imperial stout sundae. Certainly imperial in nature, and lucious.
Mouthfeel is velvety smooth, rich and thick.
The pallet is massively laden with chocolate syrup and rich coffee. The coffee essence is not of a "grounds" nature, but a well brewed, strong, and non-astringent variety.
Alcohol is warming, but negligent behind the enormous flavor profile.
Finishes with lingering Hershey’s syrup, Kona roast beans, and Kahlua.
Super decadent and very well integrated after two-plus years. Well worth the wait if you can sit on this one.
This flavor of this beer blows the doors off the Mikkeller Black Hole I had over the weekend.
