JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Aug 15, 2007 Bomber. Nice rich-looking pour with a 1 cm dense dark chestnut head. A good deal of alcohol on the nose, dark chocolate, and, of course, coffee, but the aroma isn’t overtly coffee-ish. Nice creamy palate. The taste is dominated by a strong wall of bitter roasty coffee and some alcohol. The roastiness linger but seems aided by the alcohol. At first the alcohol didn’t seem so apparent, but as it warms it is now. Certainly a very nice brew, scores well in the secondary categories of appearance and palate, but was expecting more, particularly in the aroma category. rocbyter (902), Waterbury, Connecticut, USA Aug 13, 2007 Big amount of coffee on the nose with undertones of dark malts. Black in color with a thin layer of brown foam. Bitter malt taste comes on moderately and dies off slowly. Mildy creamy taste. Alcohol is in there somewhere but hidden very well DrHomolka (725), Columbus, Ohio, USA Aug 11, 2007 22oz. Pours dark black with a dark brown, foamy head that does not want to go away. Aroma of intense, sweet chocolate, dark fruits, tobacco, burnt malts. Taste is very sweet with dark fruits being the most upfront taste with a bitter coffee finish. Very, very rich and sweet. Full bodied and chewy. Can lick the lips for taste minutes after each sip. Unique among its type. Not one of my favorite Imperial Stouts but nice nonetheless. seandwyer (10), USA Jul 22, 2007 22 oz. Oil like pour. Small, dark brown, surface head on top of a black pour. Nose screams coffee. Not a coffee drinker myself but for reason i’ve fallen for these beers. On the taste you can tell it’s at 12%. Put the keys down because you’re going to want more of this beer. A lot of rasberry, slight almond, and a heap load of happiness. I want to swim in this beer.
Best imperial stout so far. GG (1612), NorCal, California, USA Jul 17, 2007 NorCal tasting July 07 - Towards the end of the night, it’s time for the big beers to come out. And during this time, there’s always the obligatory coffee stout. Now this stout is a nice beer, but it took me awhile to get into it. The enormity of the coffee aroma was just overpowering. It’s strength surprised me and the aroma verged on the edge of day old coffee and fresh coffee. I would have marked it up higher had it leaned more to the fresher side of things. Appearance was just as about as good as it gets. A nice thick, smooth consistancy. Flavor is mostly coffee, some molasses and dark chocolate but strangely I picked up some off bell pepper/vegetative notes along with a metal character. Nice beer, but personally I’m getting tired of the whole coffee stout thing. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 7, 2007 Deep burgundy body with a uniform, sudsy, deep tan head. Extraordinary nose of raspberry, fresh espresso, and fine dark chocolate. Big sweet, black coffee flavor with medium-high roasty bitterness. This is a solid, full-bodied imperial coffee stout.
GriffinAvenue (395), Winchester, Massachusetts, USA Jul 6, 2007 750 ml bottle. Syrupy black-brown molasses. Pitch black, no head. Malty, chocolatey, sweet, roasted caramel. Hot coffee flavoring rushes to the roof of the mouth, overwhelming other flavoring. I believe I overchilled the bottle - saw noticeably more complexity toward the end of the bottle as it warmed. Quality beer and coming to see these guys as a nice go-to when in doubt. mcbackus (725), Merritt Island, Florida, USA Jul 2, 2007 bottle: pours a deep black colour with a very large cocoa coloured head. aroma is roasted dark coffee and chocolateand very strong. flavour is thick dark chocolate quite overwhellming, with roasted coffee. there is a nice sweetness that follows allthe chocolate in the finish, but it is sweet like milkj chocolate. the palate is thick and chewy on this feels almost like a meal.
