JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jun 9, 2007 22 oz bottle from winter 2007 bottling. Pitch black with a massive thick creamy dark brown head. The aroma is intensely coffeeish and shows lovely toast/roasted character. Sweet caramel, coffee, and herbal hop aroma. The flavour is very intense. Strong sweet dark malt, cocoa, and toast on the front before an intensely roasty but very smooth coffee flavour kicks in. There is an intense bitterness on the back that helps counter the intense sweetness of the malts. Very sugary and syrupy both in flavour and in texture. It gets quite cloying as you get through the bottle. I like it, but I wish someone else was here to drink the other half of this bottle. bikesandbeers (468), Los Angeles, California, USA Jun 4, 2007 From a 22oz bottle shared with WeeHeavySD. poured black with a very dark head. Aroma of sweet coffee. Flavor was of dark roasted sweetend cofee. more coffee than any other beer I’ve had. Masks the alcohol very well. a freaking great beer jgb9348 (2492), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA May 27, 2007 Pitch black in color with a super thin brown head. Aroma of chocolate, beef, and soy sauce with a bit of caramel at the end. Full-bodied; strong roasted malt flavors with soy sauce and chocolate noticeable. After-taste shows more of the same strong meaty characteristics dominate the flavor with a bit of sweetness at the end. Overall, too strong of a flavor and the meaty taste were a bit too much, but not horrible. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Olivers in Albany, NY on 27-May-2007 on the Eastern Shore in Virginia. WeeHeavySD (2941), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA May 25, 2007 22oz bomber via trade with somone, my drunken mind is not able to decipher whom. Shared with my pal Carl and Bikesandbeer. Pours him black yeah i’ll say black, with a thin layer of dark tan. Aroma is big very coffeeesque with some notes of chocolate, faint but there. The taste is pretty damn nice, chocoalte, coffee, coffee, and coffee and some really nice roastiness. Taste really nicely hides the potency of the alcohol good work southern tier. elmatador00 (518), j-action-ville, North Carolina, USA May 23, 2007 Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Has some lacing. Quake1028 (633), Tampa, Florida, USA May 20, 2007 Huge thanks to the #2 UM fan in Florida, mgumby10 for sharing this one with all of us at the Orlando gathering.
Pous a dark brown body with a creamy tan head. Looks wonderful. Aromas of chocolate, malts, coffee grounds, dark fruits. Flavor is sweet, with caramel and chocolate. Finish is super creamy and milky, with a huge chocolate ending. Alcohol is hidden masterfully, only showing up in a nice warming sense as you continue to sip. A world class imp stout.
