mgumby10 (1844), Jupiter, Florida, USA May 20, 2007 Pours black with almost no head whatsoever. Smells of roasted coffee grounds and chocolate. Quite inviting smelling. Also detected a wierd potato aroma as well, which came out of left field. The taste had no potato, thankfully, but big sweet chocolate with a coffee background, but not as much as you’d think. More of a mellow coffee taste. Very rich and thick brew. Just a treat. TheCheeseMan (538), Saint Cloud, Florida, USA May 20, 2007 Courtesy of mgumby, the #1 gangster. Aroma reminded a bit of a PX Sherry. Coffee is very apparent. Wamring well integrates alcohol, very toasty flavor with a long-lasting finish. Great beer. Ungstrup (14754), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 14, 2007 Bottled. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has strong notes of coffee and chocolate, but also light notes of alcohol. The flavor is sweet againg with strong notes of coffee, leading to a dry bitter roasted coffee end. The mouthfeel is a smooth alcoholic one, and the body is thick. Nice coffee beer. cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA May 13, 2007 Updated: Jan 1, 2008Thanks to Nuts, on tap at Vintage Estates. Once poured it has a head like chocolate mousse. Ashy bitter and roasty smelling like an old extinguished
campfire. The taste of this way strong and creamy. Coats the inside of your mouth like salad oil. Cannot taste any sweetness just super bittersweet. Lacing is medium thick and layers after each drink. No carbonation. This stuff is staining the inside of my glass. Mouthfeel and taste is heavy strong bitter black coffee lingering continuously. Though strong, does not necessarily over power. Complex and oppressive. Quite an experience, tho not my style. Weyerbacher Old Heathen is better. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA May 11, 2007 Very nice coffee really dominates the aroma.Pours black with a medium tan head.Flavor is dominated by lots of coffee and tons of roasted malts.Medium to full mouthfeel with a roasted coffee finish. JAF737300 (791), Tampa, Florida, USA May 9, 2007 This is a fantastic Imperial Stout. They hit it on the nose by bringing the coffee flavor that promotes thriugh both the Nose and palate. It has the caramel sweetness of a stout but the alcohol helps bring the seetness down a notch! swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA May 9, 2007 On tap @ Coles Buffalo NY. Deep black with Khaki head. Big coffee aroma. Chocolate, coffee & lots of alcohol taste. Too much alcohol taste. Tough to have more than a goblet. One hell of a goblet it is though PhillyBeer2112 (2084), Orange Park, Florida, USA May 6, 2007 I’m not really sure that using some of the most rare and expensive coffee beans is really necessary in brewing a coffee stout. Pours a pretty dark black-brown with a thin creamy tan head. Aroma is dominated by dark strong coffee with a syrupy caramel note. Flavor is 2-dimensional: malty caramelly sweet and roasty strong coffee. Not much else going on. The malts are a tad astringent, with some apparent alcohol in the finish. I’d say its neverthless well masked for 12%. It still pretty strong and boozy and 6oz was enough.
