Aug 16, 2009 Updated: Nov 20, 2009I’m giving this beer a second try and have decided it is not as good as I originally thought. It is definitely a good coffee stout, but not my favorite beer of all time. Still, very nice sweet / bitter balance between the malt and coffee. I’ve never downgraded a beer before, but I don’t feel comfortable with my original rating.

Aug 8, 2009 Ummmm YUM. Very dark pour with the coffee incredibly potent on the nose. Get the same treatment on the tongue. It’d take me awhile to put a bomber of this down.

Aug 4, 2009 Bottle. Pours a black body with a tan head. Chewy etoh latent fruit, malty with a roast y espresso coffee character. Bitter roast with some dark chocolate notes and a warm finish.

Aug 1, 2009 Bomber bottle: Pours black with a thin tan head that leaves excellent lacing. Roasty aroma has a strong presence of coffee and dark chocolate. Creamy texture with an excellent flavor of sweet dark fruit, coffee,vanilla and chocolate leads into a dry finish. Excellent sipping or brunch beer.

Jul 30, 2009 Pours very dark, not much head. Strong aroma of coffee, chocolate. coffee, roasted malt, and oh, yeah, coffee.Flavour is strong sweet and very alcoholic, slightly fruity and very complex it just never stops.

Jul 29, 2009 Bottle. This stuff is crazy-good! Pours black with very little head, and even this is quickly reduced to a thin ring of pale tan foam. Spotty lacing. Milk chocolate and coffee nose, some nice roasted malt in there as well, perhaps a hint of metal. Palate is where the magic happens, this beer has incredible coffee character, especially later in the palate and into the finish, big, broad,, complex roasty coffee, somewhere between Peche Mortel and Speedway. Some dark fruit, and a bit of ash in there as well, and some pervading maltiness. A bit boozy, and considering how flavorful it is, it seems a hair thin, but I’m really impressed with this.... hmmmm, doesn’t really improve as it warms up.

Jul 23, 2009 pour is black with a minuscule tan head that fades quickly. Nose is all coffee and cocoa. The taste is very coffee and chocolaty. A lot of vanilla too. A great beer.
