4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 turbo (1266) - USA - JAN 10, 2008
Black with thick, creamy dark chocolate head.
Aroma and flavor is rich roasted coffee, dark chocolate, brown suger and alcohol.
Body is rich and thick and lays heavy on the palate. Nice alcohol warming kick.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Allen (1958) - SWITZERLAND - SEP 8, 2010
Bottled 650ml. Sweet, syrupy, reminiscent of paprika with hardly any bitterness. No malt back whatsoever. Sweet, fishy with hints of boletus and artificial caramel. I dislike blackwater series from Southern Tier.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Quevillon (1667) - Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 7, 2010
Drank at the Fête Bière & Saveurs 2010 (bottle), in Chambly Quebec, September 5. Dark brown, little head. Aroma of toasted mocha coffee, a bit malty. Taste of coffee not too intense, a little dry malted barley, zero alcohol sensation. Very pleasant but far from the intensity Crême Brulé!
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 ClubGonzo (515) - Bergen, NORWAY - SEP 5, 2010
Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Valkendorfsgate, Bergen. Pours a black body with a creamy, yet fast disappearing caramel head. Nose is sweet licorice, coffee, leather and toast. Taste is very sweet, with a lactic feel, on top of dark chocolate, coffee, cocoa, dark malts and hints of leather in the aftertaste. Full-bodied and massive, this is an imp stout that could make for not just a dessert, but a whole damn dinner. Bitter, piney hops and espresso lingers on for a while, with hints of ashes and smoke. Jah-va is highly complex, but a bit too lactic and sweet for me, almost like an oversized milk stout of sorts. Good brew, although not quite on target for yours truly.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 RoscoeJackson (181) - Michigan, USA - AUG 31, 2010
You better dump this in your glass fast if you want a head, this beer pours a little flat. Pours black and leaves a slight lacing. Sweet chocolate nose. Taste is overly sweet, consistent with their other stouts. This stuff tastes like a liquer. I won’t buy another one, drinkability is low. This would, however make a GREAT coffee mixer.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 bpreo (258) - Colorado, USA - AUG 27, 2010
Knocked me out! I thought for certain that the bartender had spiked the beer with whiskey. Not a trace of coffee.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 9er (34) - Maryland, USA - AUG 27, 2010
Great and potent brew at 10.5 abv; poured from a cask at Grand Cru in Belvedere Square in Baltimore... the brewmistress was a cutey btw. The mild carbonation, coupled with the chicory raisin, molasses edge and a rather generous taste of coffee, very robust ,chocolate without the over sweet sensation was rather impressive. Overall it was pleasant and anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know shit about beer.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 KnutAlbert (3536) - Oslo, NORWAY - AUG 25, 2010
Bottle from Vinmonopolet.
Quite mild and round, milk, coffee, sugar. Some sharpness in the background, could be the alcohol. Pleasant coffee drink, not much as a beer IMHO.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 hopsessed (21) - Kansas, USA - AUG 23, 2010
Pretty killer stout. Dark, roasty, and good coffee characteristics. Pretty solid. Just a tad thin in the mouth feel.
