Commercial Description:
Three thousand feet above sea level in the misty mountains of Jamaica, some of the worlds finest Arabica beans are hand picked on their way to becoming Blue Mountain Coffee. Halfway around the world, plump spring barley grows to maturity in the loamy soil of North America while aromatic hops are cutivated to exacting standards. Here in our kettles, these three special ingredients are blended to create a heady mixture of sweet sugar, dark roast, and complex flavor. Please enjoy this brew in moderation.

Poured a deep, opaque, oily black with a fast fading tan head. Smells of roasted malt, grain, chocolate and a hint of coffee, but not too much. Initial flavor is rather mixed, very oily and spicy on the tongue with heavy alcohol and also bitter. Finish is really good though, transforms on the tongue. Starts out with a heavy coffee flavor but then transitions into the strong, grainy, imperial stout flavor that one would expect. Tough call with these specialty beers, but this is worth a look.

Huge delicious coffee all over this brew. I love coffee, especially great coffee like what is in this beer. Maybe some chocolate and dark fruits as well. So smooth and dark and tasty. Alcohol is well hidden. Careful!

Huh...I wasn’t as impressed by this beer as many others on this site. I was really expecting this beer to be quite "big," and I didn’t find it to be that exactly. I thought it a decent beer but it wasn’t as coffee-ish or as malty or as hoppy as I might’ve expected from the billing on its packaging. Nothing wrong with it specifically, it was just a little thin and not very exciting for a bold style from a great brewer that’s 12% ABV. As with most Southern Tier beers, appearance is quite appealing. Body had a dark opaque color, and head was tan and plentiful. Aroma was pretty minimal, but had some dark roastiness and faint coffee smell. Flavor was a bit on the watery side, and had some faint roastiness and coffee flavor. Mouthfeel was a bit thin. I thought this beer was OK, but I couldn’t help but be a bit disappointed in the level of intensity I found inside the bottle. I bought this bottle at 3 Cellars in Franklin, WI.

22 oz bottle thanks to black95tt . opaque black with a dark tan head that doesn’t last long. roast and coffee aroma with some malt and not much else. astringent coffee smells, and not suprisingly the coffee is dominant in the flavor as well. it’s almost as if the bitterness that lingers is derived from roast coffee beans instead of hops! some ’green-tasting’ hops show up too but only after some coaxing. alcohol apparent throughout, a bit too much really. it’s very sweet except for the bitter coffee. overdone, but not bad.

Thanks to hopdog for this... Appears a midnight black with a small brown head that slowly fades. Spotty lacing is left around the glass. Smell is of creamy, lightly lactic but enjoyable coffee. Taste is of heavy coffee, rich cocoa, and mild cream. Mouthfeel is slightly sweet with rich coffee lingering smoothly along the palate.

Big amount of coffee on the nose with undertones of dark malts. Black in color with a thin layer of brown foam. Bitter malt taste comes on moderately and dies off slowly. Mildy creamy taste. Alcohol is in there somewhere but hidden very well
