St. Nicholas, aka Santa Claus, is a magical figure, the bringer of gifts and an icon of holiday spirit. Forgotten by most is his evil side kick and enforcer of ‘the list’. European tradition says while St. Nick is busy delivering presents to good little boys and girls, Krampus hands out punishments to the bad. A fanged, goat-horned bully, the Christmas Devil uses sticks and chains to beat the naughty children. Dark malts and aromatic hops create the diabolical spirit of this brew. It is finished with lager yeast and aged cold for no less than 30 days. This Imperial Helles Lager will warm even the darkest hearts. This season, replace the cookies with a bottle of Krampus. If he happens to pay a visit, toast to him with this devilish brew. Merry Kramp-mas to all, and to all a good pint!

Yes, imperial helles is a contradiction in terms - but if the Germans aren't going to do it, someone has to. Too much carbonation to fully enjoy, but... ok. I give them points for even trying. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

fruity smell, similar to bananas...tasty is malty on the front end but morphs into a strong hoppy bitterness that increases through the finish...interesting, but not a great feature...the flavor is medium/strong...decent fall/winter beer

Strong hoppy aroma - pine and grapefruit. Pours a clear medium amber with an off-white head which has good retention and provides moderate lacing as the breww is consumed. The taste is rather surprising, especially after the hop filled fragrance. It is malty and slightly sweet. Malt, bread, grain, cardboard, combine with a piny finish. Medium body and medium carbonation. Overall, enjoyable. Raise a glass to Krampus!

Drank from a bomber. Interesting, nice nose, hoppy. The body on this is oddly light, somewhat austere, but delicious and spicy.

Extreme bitterness dominates. No sweetness to speak of, fairly boozy, not my thing.

Not a fan. Positives for palate - creamy thick and aroma - nice toasted caramel and sugars. The taste just sucks waaay too cloyingly sweet followed by strong bitter hops. A mess

Pours the color of iced tea with a medium head and a lot of lace. The aroma is strong, rich, sweet malt and some bitter, floral hops. The flavor is strong and a little boozy. Some spice and apples, and a big, bitter finish.

On tap at Whole Foods in Market Square in Fairfax, VA. Clear, dark copper amber with an off-white head and outstanding lacing. Aroma of pineapple, raisin, pine, caramel and tropical fruit. Taste of citrus, raisin, pine, caramel, light fruit, grass and pineapple. Medium/full body and medium carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

his pours with brilliant clarity and s small stream of bubbles rising up to meet a loose thin head of off white foam that dell pretty fast and left reasonable lace. Nose is at first bright with citrus peel and caramel malt. Then as it warms a mineral or metallic smell starts to evolve and a yeasty twang like in a traditional lager. The hops are floral and the malt is caramel instead of bread and I find that it smells a lot like a DIPA one minute and then a little bit like a lager the next. Orange peel. The taste is somewhat flat and muddled. I would even call it stagnant mid palate. The beer has a tremendous citrus but it isn’t crisp it’s just tart. The yeast trying to be a lager yeast adds a bit of sour twang and the metallic taste doesn’t go well with that. The malt is sweet and caramel but bread would be enough. There’s a bit of spice and a bit of alcohol on the palate.

This finishes with not only a hop bitter but a metallic aftertaste and a sour off flavor. It also finishes slick and with some hop oil. As this drinks it becomes more pleasant. Lemon takes over in the finish and the spice turns musky.
