St. Nicholas, aka Santa Claus, is a magical figure, the bringer of gifts and an icon of holiday spirit. Forgotten by most is his evil side kick and enforcer of ‘the list’. European tradition says while St. Nick is busy delivering presents to good little boys and girls, Krampus hands out punishments to the bad. A fanged, goat-horned bully, the Christmas Devil uses sticks and chains to beat the naughty children. Dark malts and aromatic hops create the diabolical spirit of this brew. It is finished with lager yeast and aged cold for no less than 30 days. This Imperial Helles Lager will warm even the darkest hearts. This season, replace the cookies with a bottle of Krampus. If he happens to pay a visit, toast to him with this devilish brew. Merry Kramp-mas to all, and to all a good pint!

Gawd... This stuff is awful. Huge plastic/chlorine/chemical aroma. Smells like a dump truck full of melted plastic unloaded itself in a public swimming pool. Taste is overly syrupy and boozy with plenty of chemical, solvent and fusel alcohol. Sticky, cloying texture with a lasting, hot, alcohol-laden, naaaaaaasty finish. Krampus *may* be worse than the train wreck that was Farmer Tan. At any rate, these guys need to STOP MAKING imperial-ish lagers. Fuck this.

Being a fan of the Krampus I couldn't pass this up when I saw it at the store. Grapefruit and pine aroma. Cloudy light orange amber with a thin white head which fades relatively quickly leaving a good coating on the glass. Medium bodied. Initially soft mouthfeel with a crispness. Velvety warm ester finish. Lots of citrus. Some resin. Well balanced with sweet maltiness. If this is what visits naughty children at Christmas, put me on the naughty list.

The body had a good dark golden amber color with very good clarity. It also had some slow moving, small carbonation bubbles that make there way up the glass to the lovely creamy colored head. The head was of average size, had very good retention and made lots of cool lacing on the glass. Its aroma had an assertive heavy and sweet character along with a strong hit of floral hops and just a touch of lemony citrus as well. The flavor like its aroma is big, bold and full bodied. Big floral and slightly citrusy hops mix with an equally big malty body that shows its 9% alcohol. The finish is slow with hop bitterness hanging on to the tongue. Its texture is slick, smooth, a bit thick, well rounded and slow sipping.

Transfer from BA review from 6-25-12 - Poured from bomber into snifter Appearance – Poured a lightly hazy orange/amber color with a one finger white head. The head fades rather quickly to leave a fair amount of lacing. Smell – The aroma is largely of citrus as well as a nice floral/herbal aroma. Mixed with this is a light funky aroma as well as some hints of alcohol. Taste- The taste begins bready and malty with some citrus and yeast flavors. The citrus develops more toward the middle with it being largely of a more bitter grapefruit At the end an alcohol taste as well as a strong presence of some earthy and grassy flavors come to the tongue leaving a rather interesting slightly off flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The beer had a nice creamy body with a low level of carbonation. Good for the malty and floral hop flavors. Overall – It was a tasty brew, but nothing that was really worth going out of the way for.

Best of this style (that I’ve tried). Dark golden body with adequate but thin head. Wonderful malty aroma, and robust taste. perfect all around.

Bottle from Sean, thanks as always! Pours a deep orange with very little head. Aroma is fruity caramel, slight cardboard oxidation and a faint stale hop. Taste is very sweet and has this "Christmas beer" spice thing going on that might just be more in my head. Slight nutmeg and then a noticeable alcohol presence. Overall, maybe a little fresher would cut down on some of the negative stale hop aspects I now come to hate in any style.

Another fine entry by Southern Tier to be enjoyed by all beer enthusiasts. Pours a dark amber. Deep aroma of coffee, chocolate and nut. A subtle sweetness. Recommended.

Bottle. Copper with thin beige head. Aroma of malt, fruit (pear and citrus), and some sweetness. Medium body with nice carbonation, caramel malt notes, medium sweetness, and a pronounce bitter hop finish.

I’m a little overdue with drinking this one. Pours a clear amber with a medium white head. The aroma has a good amount of caramel and pine, with undertones of lighter spices and ginger. The taste is a bit sweet with some mild bitterness, with pine flavors standing out the most. Some citrus elements of lemon and grapefruit are noticed, with caramel remaining quite potent. Mild cinnamon as well. Aftertaste is a short and piney. Medium in body, with a thick texture, with softer carbonation. This one isn’t bad. I can’t really find many holiday or wintery impressions in here though.
