3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Original review date 12/3/2008...
22 oz. into Duvel tulip...
Beautiful, ginger-colored, 2-finger head that’s very chewy and bready. Beautiful bonze/copper body with moderate carbonation and nice lacing. head has moderate staying power.
Awesome oily, floral hops...the dry-hopping yielded great results. Excellent grapefruit citrus tones backed by light-roasted malt backbone with good raw grain character. Light but full nose.
Straight-ahead citrus up front with lightly-stewed malt...a little light spice, too (ginger, cinnamon). Roast of various malts emerges with warmth. Not as forceful as on the nose but still extremely pleasant.
Definitely a citrus hop bomb with a creamy/oily malt backbone. A little biting but finish is full and bright...oily, oily, oily...
Methinks the excess citrus/rind bite precludes extreme drinkability but make no mistake...this is extremely well-done.

Hop forward beer, mild hop aroma. Deep amber color, slightly cloudy. Was expecting something sweet and spiced, nice surprise.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
amber color; floral hop aroma; piney hops on a medium bodied, bready malt base; bitter finish; pretty easy drinking for such a high gravity beer; well balanced; a lot hoppier than a helles would normally be

On tap at P&P Charleston. Clear golden with small white head. Aroma is malty, medium body, low carbonation, and a little lacing. Taste is malty, herbal hop balance, and some alcohol.

22 oz bottle from Anderson’s Sawmill Rd, Columbus Ohio. Southern Tier Krampus is a darker copper clear brew with a firm head of off white bubbles. Nose is strong, crisp and bitters. Taste is very akin to an English bitter, crisp clean medium malt cereal with back of the sip dry bitters. None of the expected Christmas spice at all, not that it was mentioned anywhere, but I expect it in winter seasonals. Body is a bit lively. A very interesting beer. perhaps my first imperial pils.
