Mild aroma and dark black pour leads to a complex taste that changes both flavor and mouthfeel from coffee to warming chocolate as it leaves the palate.

06.22.14 store label.
Poured from a bomber into a goblet on 09.17.14.
A: Hostess chocolate pie and a tiny bit of dark coffee.
A: Midnight black body with a bit of red in the glass. It has a ring of bubbles that recedes quickly.
T: Chocolate pie and dark coffee dominate. Dark fruit, woodiness, and vanilla are subtle.
P: Creamy smooth.
O: The coffee is mild and complements the overall flavor without overwhelming it. It is a complex and enjoyable stout.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aged two years. Smells great, tons of milk chocolate with a hint of coffee and some roasted malts. Completely black, thick brown head. Tastes delicious. Coffee-candy like flavors in this one. Upfront some umami/soy, chocolate, finishes with more soy characteristics, coffee on the exhale and a sticky sweetness. Extreme flavors but well balanced. Alcohol very well hidden. This one is great, hadn’t tried it fresh but aged two years it’s quite nice. Thick bodied and average carbonation.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This black stout has a chocolate and coffee aroma and offers full body sweetness with a light bitter aftertaste. It was a good choice for a cold day.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured from a bomber until tulip glass. Lovely sweet aroma that reminded me of cigar city southern slice. It just smells like a dessert. Flavor is quite good. Abv is hidden well. The beer is sweet all the way through, but never cloying. The chocolate is soft and simple but delicious. A slightly bitter finish mars things a bit, but still very good.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber shared with judges. Deep brown black with a decent mocha head. Gorgeous chocolate and coffee aroma, sweet tick and rich. Flavour is richly chocolatey, nice dark coffee, molasses; very sweet with lots of cocoa, chocolate and coffee, decent bitterness. Lovely.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma is complex. Fruity earthy coffee. Chocolate bitterness.
Looks good. Dark black. Huge dark brown espresso head.
Taste is a little acidic. Bitter. Earthy dirt. Hops cut through on the finish. I think the hoppy finish takes a lot away. I would rather have some sweetness. Boozy. Flavors are muddled rather than distinct.
Palate is alright. A little dirty and aggressive.
Overall a solid beer. Doesn’t taste as gimmicky as other chocolate or coffee beers. But the acidity and bitterness make it rough.
