Commercial Description:
“brewed for the harvest” This beer begins in spring when oat seeds are sown as soon as the soil can be worked. Meanwhile, select types of barley are planted with hopes that Mother Nature will be kind. Our brewers wait patiently until the legumes are mature and ready for the scythe. Upon delivery to the brewery, these ingredients are mixed together in the mash tun where they steep, creating a rich molasses-like liquid. Spicy hops are boiled with the thick brew, giving balance and complexity. Brewers yeast feasts upon the rich sugars, concluding its transformation into oatmeal stout. Pour Oat into a snifter, allow its thick tan head to slowly rise, releasing unbridled aromas. The color of Oat is as dark as a moonless night. The first sip reveals Oat’s thick and nourishing taste. Like a haversack to a horse, a bottle of this stout is a meal in itself. Enjoy responsibly. 11.0% abv • 238º L

Bomber into a rocks glass (I was in a hotel, don’t ask). Deep black with a small dark tan head. The aroma is mostly sweet with a bit of roast. The flavor is sweet malts with a large dose of chocolate.

22 oz bottle. Pours with a very black body and a small dark tan head. Aroma is chocolate malts, touch of oats. Flavor is smooth, creamy stout. Alcohol hits you later as you continue to drink the beer. Maybe I wasn’t feeling it the night I was drinking it - but I thought it was pretty average - with the only thing going for it the huge alcohol percentage which usually causes me to dump half the bottle because I just can’t finish it if I’m having this by myself.

08 bottle from Binny’s. Pours pitch black with quickly fading beige head. Nose is sweet chocolate malts, sweet oatmeal and molasses. Flavor is dark roasted malt, slight coffee, rich molasses, brown sugar and slightly bitter. Very smooth and a little slimy. Alcohol only noticeable in the finish. Very good.

Dark brown pour with a brown head. Aroma of sweet malt, chocolate, oats. Taste is wonderfullly smooth and creamy. Barley, oats, chocolate, sweet. It is thick and chewy-it is a meal! Nice lacing, shows each sip taken. The beer clingingly slides down the side of the glass. like a good scotch, it has legs. Alcohol only becomes noticeable at the end of the drink. This is a repeat beer.

Tap at Mac’s Industrial. Deep brown color, not much head (could have been the pour though). Faint chocolate aroma. Sweet chocolate flavor with some fruity notes and noticeably boozy. Smooth, sweet finish.

Bomber from VBM. I was told this is the fresh batch distributed. Pours a pitch black body with a medium tan head. Aroma is toasted mocha, alcohol, cinnamon with some vanilla and coffee scents. Flavor is sweet dark chocolate, bitter espresso, very cloying. As bsp77 mentioned its relatively easy drinking. The alcohol wasn’t a turnoff, but definately noticeable. Its a solid fucking Imperial Stout.

Poured from bomber into Snifter. Looks pitch black but some dark brown at the edges. Very thin tan head at first, then looks flat. Aroma of alcohol, milk chocolate, molasses, sweet roasted malt. The smell is too boozy. Chocolate roasted malts, cream, molasses and oats. Decent level of bitterness that builds with each sip. The alcohol becomes noticeable in the aftertaste. Very thick and chewy, with a nice smooth and warming body. However, it is pretty much flat and slightly chalky. Actually pretty easy to drink despite the 11%. However, it is a little simple for an Imperial Stout and definitely too boozy. Actually, every ST Imperial beer I have had is too boozy. I don’t think it is worth paying for them anymore.

This imperial stout pours black like every other IS I’ve had and produces a minimal head. It smells very chocolate-y with a slight oatmeal scent and a bit of alcohol. The taste is the polar opposite of what you smell, though. It has barely any chocolate taste, the oatmeal is very prominent and it’s rather alcoholic. It was truely delicious. The texture was extremely smooth and thick. It did seem to have a small body though; not very hearty. It also had a rough bite from the alcohol.
