Commercial Description:
“brewed for the harvest” This beer begins in spring when oat seeds are sown as soon as the soil can be worked. Meanwhile, select types of barley are planted with hopes that Mother Nature will be kind. Our brewers wait patiently until the legumes are mature and ready for the scythe. Upon delivery to the brewery, these ingredients are mixed together in the mash tun where they steep, creating a rich molasses-like liquid. Spicy hops are boiled with the thick brew, giving balance and complexity. Brewers yeast feasts upon the rich sugars, concluding its transformation into oatmeal stout. Pour Oat into a snifter, allow its thick tan head to slowly rise, releasing unbridled aromas. The color of Oat is as dark as a moonless night. The first sip reveals Oat’s thick and nourishing taste. Like a haversack to a horse, a bottle of this stout is a meal in itself. Enjoy responsibly. 11.0% abv • 238º L

Bottle. Medium high creamy and long lastng light brown head leaving nice curtains. Very dark brown, almost black body. Roasted barley malt aroma with coffee and choccolate but no sign of the expected hops. Smooth, pleasant ladylike creamy coffee choccolate with a good deal of bitterness in the flavor. The high alcohold percentage is not tastable. Liquorice adds up although not very dominant. Low carbonated and a long and bitter coffer aftertaste. Man what more do you want. CSA (my Danish hero brewer) thiis one is one that I am sure you would have loved to have brewed.

Bottle. Opaque body, very thin ring of bubbles. Nose-oaty, dark liquid malt extract, boozy. Taste-lots of dark fruits, fig raisins, sherry, sweet bitter on the backend, a little acrid coffee, cherry, bittersweet chocolate, pecan shells, sticky, overall too sweet.

0.65 l bottle at Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Black color with small head. Vinous aroma with soft roasty malts, dark fruits, licorice, plum and perhaps oak also. Thick sweet flavor with dark fruits, grassy oats, obvious but not strong roastedness, smoke, plum, chocolate and licorice. Bitter chocolate in the finish. Very good, so far my favourite from this brewery.

22oz bottle courtesy of vwcraig. Bottle says this was brewed in fall of 2007. It smells like it has held up well, sweet stout notes and a little alcohol. The flavor is some chocolate, more stout, no roast or oat but a good beer nonetheless. The only thing I don;t care for is the high ABV, I prefer beers to be under 10% Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 12-17-2008 03:25:41

Poured from a 22oz bottle. Dark, dark brown with a tan head. Smells very nice, some roast and chocolate scents. Very smooth and a nice balance for bitterness and sweet. I can’t wait till this beer joins the other Southern Tier brews already available here. Nice beer. Worth seeking out .

Bottle shared by illinismitty @ the Barrios tasting. Poured black with a tan head. Awesome aromas of chocolate and a nice smoke undertone. The flavor has a good oat, chocolate, vanilla and roastiness to it with a slight hint of hops. Fully body, sweet, and smooth. Very nice!

(Bottle -- shared with sayravai, thanks -- at Pikkulintu, Helsinki, on 2009-01-27) Almost black. Small tan coloured head. Liquorice and roastedness in aroma. Full bodied and a bit oily palate with medium carbonation. Liquorice, bitterness, roastedness, creaminess, light sweetness and chocolate in taste. Roasty, creamy and bitter aftertaste.
