Commercial Description:
“brewed for the harvest” This beer begins in spring when oat seeds are sown as soon as the soil can be worked. Meanwhile, select types of barley are planted with hopes that Mother Nature will be kind. Our brewers wait patiently until the legumes are mature and ready for the scythe. Upon delivery to the brewery, these ingredients are mixed together in the mash tun where they steep, creating a rich molasses-like liquid. Spicy hops are boiled with the thick brew, giving balance and complexity. Brewers yeast feasts upon the rich sugars, concluding its transformation into oatmeal stout. Pour Oat into a snifter, allow its thick tan head to slowly rise, releasing unbridled aromas. The color of Oat is as dark as a moonless night. The first sip reveals Oat’s thick and nourishing taste. Like a haversack to a horse, a bottle of this stout is a meal in itself. Enjoy responsibly. 11.0% abv • 238º L

Big chocolate nose. pours with a beige head, and this is extremely thick. I was expecting a huge alcohol taste, but very little. I cant beleive this is 11 percent. It has the character of a typical imperial stout except sweeter and perhaps more body.

Bottle from Sams Clybourn. Pours a deep dark black with dissipating head. Nose is rich with some light molasses, anise, chocolate and sweet booze in it. Taste is pretty dry and acrid with chocolate and the oil oats rolling through. No roastiness, which seems to be missing, but theres no roasted barley, so there ya go. Finish is dry and body is big. Pretty decent.

22 oz bottle. Pours a pitch black body with a great creamy dark brown head that had excellent retention. Moderate fizzy carbonation visible. Big, huge roasty nose with chocolate fudge cake, a little dry roasted peanut, oat smoothness, and just a touch of alcohol. The flavor is big. Super smooth roast with just a perfect amount of oat presence. Espresso, minimal malt bitterness, and a big chocolate milk like finish. Maybe a little heat on the back end, but pretty well under control for such a high ABV. Mouthfeel is full and thick with an amazing smoothness for such a big beer. Perfect soft carbonation. Can not ask for anything more here with this one. This is by far my favorite beer from Southern Tier. I need to track down some more of this.

2007 bottle courtesy of sebletitje. Pours black with nice yellow lacing at swirl. Aroma is licorice, chocolate, whiskey, vanilla, maple, and depth. Flavor is same with some cream and coffee flavors. Great stout, very enjoyable.

22oz bomber from Canals Hainesport. Pours a deep dark black with a large foamy beige head. Aroma of chocolate, espresso, mint tea leaves, hot chocolate powder, bubble gum and some mustiness. Flavor of chocolate, freeze dried coffee beans, tar, tobacco and burnt malts. Full thick viscous body, light carbonation and a quickly fading after taste of harsh burntness. The flavor and palate are spot on but the aroma might have needed some more time to warm up.

2007 bottle pours black, golden lacing and head. Aroma is loaded with oats and malts, some notes of dark fruits and roastiness. Taste oat, chocolate roasted coffee malts. Thick mouthfeel with a good boozy lingering palate. Overall, the beer remains rather creamy smooth and thick after taste with emphasis on light dark fruits and roastiness. This one is just in the top of their Imperial series. Depending of the mood, Jahva, Choklat or Creme Brulle should do the trick.
