Commercial Description:
“brewed for the harvest” This beer begins in spring when oat seeds are sown as soon as the soil can be worked. Meanwhile, select types of barley are planted with hopes that Mother Nature will be kind. Our brewers wait patiently until the legumes are mature and ready for the scythe. Upon delivery to the brewery, these ingredients are mixed together in the mash tun where they steep, creating a rich molasses-like liquid. Spicy hops are boiled with the thick brew, giving balance and complexity. Brewers yeast feasts upon the rich sugars, concluding its transformation into oatmeal stout. Pour Oat into a snifter, allow its thick tan head to slowly rise, releasing unbridled aromas. The color of Oat is as dark as a moonless night. The first sip reveals Oat’s thick and nourishing taste. Like a haversack to a horse, a bottle of this stout is a meal in itself. Enjoy responsibly. 11.0% abv • 238º L

Pours black with a decent head and some lacing. Big aroma of chocolate, coffee, and licorice. Some bitterness.

Lovely roasted coffee and chocolate aroma. Can almost smell the alcohol. Suprisingly minimal head for an oatmeal beer. Total darkness. Bitter chocolate, coffee and alcohol flavor. Almost viscous mouthfeel. Aftertaste is a little soy sauce.

Black color with a brown head. Rich, roasty black malt aroma. Medium to full body with a chewy mouthfeel. Has a dry bakers chocolate flavor with a rich, lingering blackened malt finish.

Bottle at home - thanks Sune - shared with Mette & Sune. Pitch black - small brown head. High high chocolate, coffee, licorice, high licorice, oat, smoothness, vinous, sweetness, tarmac, soya, syrup, lovely high hoppy, brown sugar, lovely. It is sune-aged for one year.

Bottle bonus received during recent trade (Thanks Steven!) Poured pitch black into a small snifter with no head. Aroma was malty, sweet and and slightly smoky. Iniitial flavors of brown sugar/molasses followed by an oak-y finish. Although a very good beer, I don’t if I would go out of the way to find it.

Bomber, 2007 vintage. Black with a thick brown head. Sweet malt and molasses nose, some coffee, a spicy note. Tarry booziness hits the palate immediately, followed by licorice and sweet molasses. Bitter chocolate bite late, the booziness lingers on the tongue and warm all the way to the gut. Take the alcohol edge off this and it would be awesome, but this is one where it detracts from a pretty nice beer.

Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of toasted and molasses and a light note of dark coffee, Moderate hops and yeast smells of resin and earth with hints of dark dried fruits, charcoal, cola and alcohol. Head is small, creamy with larger bubbles, light brown with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is deep dark brown, almost black. Flavor is moderately sweet and lightly acidic to start, and finishes lightly sweet and acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is medium to full, creamy to syrupy and has a soft carbonation. A powerful stout with lots of pleasant characteristics.

Bottle traded with drewbeerme. Thanks. Vintage 2007. Black with a tiny beige head. Sweet and full stout. Strong aromas of chocolate and hints of toasted malts. Lots of depth. Gave me nice coacoa-burbs. Soft carbonation. Smooth and velvety mouthfeel. Chocolaty finish with hints of residual sugars. Wow.
