Hophead22 (1056), Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA Nov 17, 2008 22oz bottle. Very dark pour, with a dark brown head. Chocolate, clean coffee aroma. Very smooth oaty flavor, silky. Slight bitterness. Very good, hid the 11% very well. Miamifan1354 (19), , Delaware, USA Nov 3, 2008 Had this on tap at the Irish Pol in Philly. Came out black with no head at all. Smelled of coffee and malt. Had an intense flavor of caramels and dark chocolate. Short aftertaste of hops, but not over bearing at all. Very heavy beer. MAP (1085), Lakewood, Ohio, USA Nov 2, 2008 Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma is rich and a good mix of chocolate and grainy oats. It has a pretty relaxed aroma, but the flavor is really smooth and wonderful. It has a good blend of bittersweet chocolate and smooth oat character. I definitely prefer these smooth drinking imperial stouts to the over-the-top hoped and coffee loaded varieties. The palate is so gentle and smooth on this one I could drink this all night, until the 11% snuck up on me. 00cobraR (1096), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Nov 2, 2008 Pours out like used motor oil with nearly no head. aroma is intense with roasted malt, coffee, caramel, and choco. flavor is fairly simialr and just as intense. this brew was fantanstic. abv was well hidden. elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Oct 29, 2008 Bomber from Forest City in CT. Pours pitch black with a brown head. Aroma of chocolate, malt, and wood. Palate is thick and creamy, which supports bold notes of chocolate, espresso, roasts, brown sugar, and oats. The smooth, rich flavors here are so balanced, I compare it to dessert of vanilla ice cream with espresso dripped on top. The 11% ABV is nearly imperceptible, which is extraordinary. Mellow, yet powerful, bitter yet deliciously sweet, this is one of the best Impy Stouts I’ve had! Rballs01 (264), Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, USA Oct 29, 2008 Pored dark and creamy. The mouth feel was velvety smooth and coated the palate. Hints of licorice and coffee. A delicious well balanced beer to welcome the new season. tdaglow (41), Minnesota, USA Oct 28, 2008 Aroma is big roasted malt and oat. Appearance is a deep thick black. Flavor is a complex carmel, vanilla, chocolate, oat, coffee, a slight hop bitter and some alcohol heat. Palate is full and round, thick and silky. Yummy and warm. BREWMUSKCLES (1062), New Jersey, USA Oct 27, 2008 not a fan of acrid though this one does settle down slowly but nicely. good strong alcohol somewhat hidden and classicly warming. velvet to a degree and smooth with black cherrywine like tastes and good appropriate stout flavors roasty and spicy with licorice and hints of cocoa and coffee. dark head is creamy and flavorful. good and hearty for this time of year.
