COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“brewed for the harvest” This beer begins in spring when oat seeds are sown as soon as the soil can be worked. Meanwhile, select types of barley are planted with hopes that Mother Nature will be kind. Our brewers wait patiently until the legumes are mature and ready for the scythe. Upon delivery to the brewery, these ingredients are mixed together in the mash tun where they steep, creating a rich molasses-like liquid. Spicy hops are boiled with the thick brew, giving balance and complexity. Brewers yeast feasts upon the rich sugars, concluding its transformation into oatmeal stout. Pour Oat into a snifter, allow its thick tan head to slowly rise, releasing unbridled aromas. The color of Oat is as dark as a moonless night. The first sip reveals Oat’s thick and nourishing taste. Like a haversack to a horse, a bottle of this stout is a meal in itself. Enjoy responsibly. 11.0% abv • 238º L

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2010 Draft at Brouwer’s. Black with a small beige head. Aroma is quite nice, roasty and full of chocolate, caramel, and coffee. Flavor was mostly good, but something felt wrong. It hits a lot of good points: more big toasty coffee and chocolate notes, molasses, oats, and raisiny dried fruit characteristics. Has a nice, thick body. There’s a certain quality I can best describe as rancid nuts hiding in it that brings it down a notch for me. It wasn’t enough to ruin it, but it knocked it down a notch. It was subtle enough that I intend to revisit it to make sure it wasn’t a one time issue.

Bottle. Fruit, chocolate and light coffee aroma. Sweet fruit and chocolate body. Warm alcohol and coffee palate. Very nice.

No surprise here, pours a oil black with a thin beige head. The aroma is on the roasty side, but with sweet, maybe lactose sugar sort of notes, chocolate, coffee, alcohol aswell is very prominent but I don’t knock it because I happen to like alcohol. The flavour pretty much delivers what is promised in the aroma, roasty, malty, goodness, little touches of sweetness here and there, some chocolate and coffee dance together for a while before giving way to some delicious notes of licorice which last well into the finish. As the aroma suggests, the alcohol is rather prominent in this beer, causing a bit of a problem with the mouthfeel, and maybe making the licorice finish almost a little salty tasting, but in a strange way, I find it kind of appealing. Probably not going to be everyones favorite Imperial Stout, but I’d certainly drink this anytime I could get it. Cheers!

Lactose smell with a weird sort of sour, sweet note. Taste is sweet and a bit tingly on the tongue with a nice warmth as it goes down. Very flat, absolutely no head when I poured it which is kind of surprising.

dark pour with smooth tan head. Notes of sweet malts and a slight alcohol aroma. Sweet grain taste with a beautiful sweet and bitter finish at the same time. this may be the beer that turns me back on to oatmeal stouts

Pours deep black with thin tan head. Aroma is full of chocolate and sweet molasses and caramel. Taste up front is sweet chocolate moving into coffee, vanilla, spiciness, moving into more bitter chocolate, anise and dark fruit for the end with some smoky bitterness. What an excellent stout!

Nice aroma of cereal, and plum with a good roasted quality to the scent. The beer is black with a nice head that sticks to the glass, and lasts a long time. It has a very complex flavor with hints of citrusy hops, creamy malt, chocolate, oak, smoke, vanilla, and maple. It has a great mouthfeel and it’s big body is a good example of an imperial stout. This is without question the best stout I have ever tasted.

Bottle@Home. Chocolate and loads of fruit in the aroma. Black colour, light brown head, good lace. Very sweet, bitter, chocolate, licorice, fruits and some coffee. Full and sticky mouth feel. Flavourful, easy going, powerful, yummy!
