Commercial Description:
“brewed for the harvest” This beer begins in spring when oat seeds are sown as soon as the soil can be worked. Meanwhile, select types of barley are planted with hopes that Mother Nature will be kind. Our brewers wait patiently until the legumes are mature and ready for the scythe. Upon delivery to the brewery, these ingredients are mixed together in the mash tun where they steep, creating a rich molasses-like liquid. Spicy hops are boiled with the thick brew, giving balance and complexity. Brewers yeast feasts upon the rich sugars, concluding its transformation into oatmeal stout. Pour Oat into a snifter, allow its thick tan head to slowly rise, releasing unbridled aromas. The color of Oat is as dark as a moonless night. The first sip reveals Oat’s thick and nourishing taste. Like a haversack to a horse, a bottle of this stout is a meal in itself. Enjoy responsibly. 11.0% abv • 238º L

Tap @ Publick House, Brookline, MA. Pours a thick almost jet black with a slight brown head. Smell is heavy malt with chocolate and coffee detectable as well. Taste is chocolate, dissolving into a coffee characteristic with a sweetness that’s balanced by the hops. It’s a very solid beer.

bottle from beachbum25...thanks so much! Jet black pour wtih a small tan head. The nose is full of coffee, dried dark fruits and chocolate. I get a hint of molasses and some alcohol as well. The flavor is smooth and delicious. Molasses, chocolate, raisins, port wine and coffee are present. Mouthfeel is a tiny, tiny bit thinner than I would expect but this is a kick ass brew and I am very glad to have more coming!

Bottle from Provisions Market in St. Louis. The surprising aspects to me of this beer was how well it masked its 11 ABV, the dry finish, and the fact that it was not nearly as creamy as I expected from an oatmeal stout. Notes of soy, unsweetened cocoa powder, espresso, and molasses on the palate with dark stone fruits such as plum playing a supporting role, all of which contribute to a great complexity. Not quite as viscous as I expected. Finish is tannic.

Brown/black with thinn head, and ring aorund the glass. Boozy roasted malty notes are first noticed in the aroma department, but they are quickly joined by earthy, smkoed out fruits, mangos, vanilla and caramel. The body and flavors are of the "in your face" variety, nice.A vineous palate smashing and bittering, coffee roasted dusty quality to finish it out. A great brew overall.

pours pitch black with a light brown tannish brown head, sightly rocky. Smels of chocolate, oat, and rich malt. Tates of sweet oats, chocolate, sugar, slighty chewy the sugar is almost gritty in the beer. Definitely a decnet alcohol kick on the finish. Absolutely delicious.
