| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Feb 26, 2008 Strong roasty aromas, dark chocolate, creamy coffee. Pours black with a dense tan head. Thick oily mouthfeel, intense roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, very hoppy with some piney flavors, wow this is a thick beer. The alcohol is not very noticable. Great stout. jefcon (998), Arlington, Virginia, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 25, 2008 Blackwater is an appropriate name -- this beer is glassy and black. Aromas of smoke, chocolate, mocha and grains. Maybe black tea, too. Big and full on the palate with chocolate and apricot hops elevated by the colossal amount of alcohol. Light, sweet caramel. Oily and slick finish with a tingling of hops. Complicated stuff. Really good. omhper (12171), Stockholm, Sweden

Loads of molasses and chocolate, followed by tar and licorice. Very sweet and thick with massive body, gets cloying and edgy with lots of alcohol coming through. An unbalanced mess. kmeves (1080), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 22, 2008 Pours a dark black body beneath a thin tan head, some lacing. Aromas of cocao, plum, cherry, light roasted barley and malted milk balls. Flavor is semi-sweet cocoa, light coffee flavors and some restrained notes of roasted barley. Full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Finishes a nice long cocao sweet. bdigital (586), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 17, 2008 Bottle: Courtesy of renhed, this pours a dark mahogany with no head. This is the first "oat-based" beer that I’ve had that actually presents oat aspects at the forefront. The initial notes in the nose are of oat, brown sugar and maple. Some molasses, chocolate and dark roasted malt aspects come through as it warms. Nice, full-bodied mouth feel lends itself well to the fabulous taste of this. Dark malts, oats, and coffee flavors are pronounced throughout and lead to a wonderful, dry, mild alcohol kick of a finish. CP (124), USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Feb 14, 2008 Pretty Amazing Beer......hard to tell it is 11% abv. This is a lot like expedition in terms of thickness and the way it coats the palate. Bell’s expedition is 10.5 and the alcohol is rather apparent on the aftertaste. This one is 11 and I find it much more drinkable. The oats are also very apparent, more so than any oatmeal stout I can remember. Anyways, this is a good beer and easy to drink. It’ll get ya drunk.......no doubt..... StFun (535), Indiana, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Feb 10, 2008 Updated: Jan 29, 2009Oh man, is this one awesome Oat Stout. Good lord! Described to me by GMCC2181 as "Goose Island on steroids" and that’s exactly what it is! Pours black, black, black, and the oaty smell hits you right away. Not "complex" like, say, an Expedition Stout, but thats just fine, because everything you love about an Oat Stout is cranked up a notch! Nice full, thick body. Heaps of oat flavor. Very very creamy and smooth. Generous amounts of hops and chocolate balance each other out. The ony downfall (for me) is the high ABV%. It doesn’t take anything away, but I’d have downplayed it a bit more. However, this beer was an all time favorite. One word: Delicious. Three more words: Thanks to GMCC2181!! Hopefully he’ll be trading me some more soon!! Braudog (3752), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 10, 2008 Bottle. Dark and thick, as one would expect an Imperial Stout shoudl be. The head is tight bubbles, but stops a step short of being solid foam. The aroma is kick-azz ... oily, viscuous and alcohol-laden! This drinks with a full ladle of rich, over-the-top flavors, thick with an alcohol-laden sweetness. There’s also a sweet fruitiness that hangs around, too ... kinda like a fermented fruit roll up. Interesting and intriguing and not for a light beer drinker, that’s for sure! (#3319, 2/10/2008)
