Commercial Description:
“brewed for the harvest” This beer begins in spring when oat seeds are sown as soon as the soil can be worked. Meanwhile, select types of barley are planted with hopes that Mother Nature will be kind. Our brewers wait patiently until the legumes are mature and ready for the scythe. Upon delivery to the brewery, these ingredients are mixed together in the mash tun where they steep, creating a rich molasses-like liquid. Spicy hops are boiled with the thick brew, giving balance and complexity. Brewers yeast feasts upon the rich sugars, concluding its transformation into oatmeal stout. Pour Oat into a snifter, allow its thick tan head to slowly rise, releasing unbridled aromas. The color of Oat is as dark as a moonless night. The first sip reveals Oat’s thick and nourishing taste. Like a haversack to a horse, a bottle of this stout is a meal in itself. Enjoy responsibly. 11.0% abv • 238º L

Sampled at MN Ratebeer Winter Gathering in Maplewood, MN and supplied by Stein. From a 22-oz bomber pours an opaque dark brown brew with a thin off-white head that has some good retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted dark malt, oatmeal, coffee, a touch of dark bittersweet chocolate and dark pitted fruits. Taste is full bodied, smooth, creamy with a dark roasted malt flavor with characteristics of molasses, raisins, and dark fruit. Finish is smooth, thick texture with a dark chocolate and molasses aftertaste. The alcohol warmth was a nice touch too.

[1028-20080106] 1pt6floz. Boozy oatmeal roasted malt aroma with some grassy notes. Black body with a quick foamy brown head. Burnt roasted chocolate malt flavour has a long finish. Full body is thick and smooth. Easy to drink, rich but subtle.

bottle complements of toddbates: Had this after GI bourbon county stout: aroma was roasted with some molasses and raisin. poured dark dark brown about a shade darker than cola, and not very much head for an oatmeal stout, a small quarter inch of tan head on the pour that completely disappeared and caused the beer to look like cola colored wine. Flavor has some dry fruits especially rasins, and also some molasses, there was a little bit of tobacco as well. mouthfeel was full and oily, but could have actually been more so. overall a good beer, but not a great impy stout

A great initial aroma jumps out of this one... very oaty, some malts but with no hop content. Great dark black body for a stout with a thin, very light, ivory head... perfect. Flavor is amazing, light oating leading into a perfect malt content. Somewhat like Grapenuts cereal... with a light chocolate dusting (ie: the malts coming through). Ending is smooth with a VERY light hop accent.
