NachlamSie (1631), Tennessee, USA Dec 16, 2007 Bomber, big thanks to Tronraner for sharing. Pours black with small spots of ruby and a dark head. Tilting the snifter shows dense cascades in the viscous liquid. The aroma holds much deep rum, chocolate, brownies, and a light roasty quality. It isn’t as aromatic as I was expecting, but it still smells nice. The palate on this one is heavy and syrupy as the flavor coats my mouth. The oats are very strong, but smooth and creamy, not toasty, gritty, or grainy. Think prepared oatmeal. Rich chocolate and molasses come out. This is well made brew. Saarlander (1577), Saarlouis, Germany Dec 16, 2007 Bottle from HogTownHarry,Thanks! poured pitch black, thick. Somewhat of an alcohol bite, but it mellowed as it warmed, lots of sweetness to this one, some coffee flavor, roasted malts, but sweetness dominates, and it works great, fruity, oily, nice brew to drink in my Garage bar when its 35F in SoCal! Solid brew! Another great brew from So.Tier! jsquire (2087), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Dec 15, 2007 Updated: May 1, 2008Dark beer with a thin brown head. The nose troubled me and was of dead ashtray and old chocolate. Flavor is full of chocolate with molassass, vanilla, wood, coffee, and ash. Creamy mouthfeel that I credit to the oatmeal. I expected better. Pretty standard impy stout. On a second bottle, the nose was much better so I raised my rating a little. emerica56 (575), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA Dec 12, 2007 This beer pours out a dark brown with no head at all. The aroma is very intense and has strong hints of vinallia vodka, earth tones and some hints of roasted malt. As you drink it you still get the strong vinalla vodka like flavor withs some earth tnes and some vegtable mainly peas. There is also some carmel malt with some hints of coffee but those are very minor. The palate duration is very short since there is not much on the palate at all. Drink4Satan (585), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA Dec 12, 2007 I have so say, I was expecting a lot from this beer and it fell short of expectation. The pour reveals a black colour with ruby edges and a delayed tan head that fades to nothing. The nose is pleasantly roasty with a fair amount of alcohol, dark pitted fruit and a whisper of smoke. The flavour is heavily roasted malt, oats and barley, with some cocoa bitterness on the finish. There is definitely some sweet, syrupy, fruity notes mid-palate that accompany the roasted coffee flavour. that The body is oily and vicous, staining the glass! Check out the jah-va if you’re a fan of this. Alldaydrinker (557), Norwood, Massachusetts, USA Dec 12, 2007 Bomber Pours a oily black colour with a small dark tan head. Nose of roasted malts, chocolate and coffe. Initial taste is soft & velvety with roasted malts overlayed by a touch of coffee. Dark fruits are also mildly present. Finishing with a creamy chocolate and bitter hops. Alcohol is well masked. Palate duration is excellent. Sticky lips & mouthfeel. Dry finish. Medium to Full bodied. Good Stuff. RollinHard (750), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Dec 9, 2007 Updated: Jan 17, 2008Pours black like your mom’s soul, with a small brownish tan head, dissipates to the smallest of rings around the glass. Aroma...damn, just lovely! Chocolatey is too simple a description for what this beer does. It’s dark, milky, moussey, fruitfilled, you name it. I also get some raisins, dates, vanilla, woody with a hint of booze/rum, and yes, a distinct oaty grain aroma. Flavor encompasses the darker side of the chocolates spectrum at first, with some coffee, but it becomes sweeter with vanilla, raisins, lactose, and a woody roasty hop flavor. Finishes a quick blast of oats, followed by mildly sweetened coffee, dark chocolate, and toasted nuts. Noticably warming, but it’s not an appalling heat. Unique mouthfeel to this beer, where it feels very creamy and full due to the oats, but it’s really very slick and downright silky. Carbonation is low, but oddly noticable. I like the fact that the hop bitterness is relatively mild and the roastiness isn’t really a dominating element. Despite a couple really minor flaws, this is an incredibly awesome beer, and certainly unique amongst imperial stouts. Beerdedone (1873), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 8, 2007 Bottle sampled. Pours jet black with a very small tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark fruits, light coffee, and some dark chocolate notes. Flavor is creamy and full bodied with roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, dark fruit, coffee, and a hint of molasses. with a light bitter finish. Very well balanced. An excellent oatmeal stout.
