beerguy101 (3861), Newark, California, USA Nov 21, 2007 This Imperial Stout pours a deep black color from a 22oz bottle. Medium sized beige head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee so roasted malts. A medium bodied Imperial Stout. The malts are chocolate and coffee, a touch burnt. The hops are a touch earthy. Soft mouthfeel. Complex flavors of roasted malt, chocolate and vanilla. Smooth tasting. A touch of alcohol hotness. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. ChillCoat (1029), Concord, California, USA Nov 21, 2007 Bottle. Murky brown pour with a tan head. Chocolate and coffee aromas. Soft and sweet with big chocolate, caramel and raisin notes. Somewhat hot. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Nov 20, 2007 Bomber ordered from Archer Liquors
Pours dark black with a small tan head that doesn’t last even with a violent pour. Smell is of marshmallows, oat, chocolate and a lot of alcohol coming through in the way of acetone, almost. Taste is creamy, smooth, and oily with a great carbonation level. More oatiness, chocolate, roast malt and marshmallowy goodness, but again the alcohol is huge, and is the only thing that keeps this from being awesome in my mind. If they scaled it back to maybe 8-9% or hid it better I’d love this stuff, but as hot as it is, It was just an enjoyable one time beer for me. portermax55 (118), Canterbury, Connecticut, USA Nov 19, 2007 Sample at Julio’s Liquors in MA. Pour’s a deep, dark brown with a thick tan head. Heavy aromas of oats, roasted malts, caramel and a hint of brown sugar. Flavor is of dark chocolate, coffee beans, rolled oats, and a slight hint of butter. Mouthfeel is thick and chewy. One of the better Imp. stout’s I’ve had in a while. popkow (107), New York, New York, USA Nov 18, 2007 From a bottle this oatmeal stout had average head, muddy black body. It released a chocolate/coffee combo overwelms a oatmeal taste. The coffee flavor cuts the alcohol which makes it surprisingly easy to drink. pineypower (1077), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA Nov 18, 2007 Thanks to Zathrus13 for this one. Black on the pour with a small lacing tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, alcohol, dark fruits and some chocolate. Taste is complex with a very full mouthfeel, roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, dried fruit, sweet oats. Dry alcoholic finish, very solid once again. LilKem (1210), Marietta, Ohio, USA Nov 17, 2007 this rocked. lots of thick oatmeal, milk chocolate, peanut, dark roast espresso, butterscotch and marshmellows. Zeswaft (1000), Seattle, Washington, USA Nov 16, 2007 I bought this over a month ago to be my 1000th rating because it was the highest rated beer I could find. At that time it was in the top 20, now it’s on its way to below a 4.0. Aroma: Chocolate, pine, chalk, and booze. Pour is super thick black. Delayed dark brown head. Wow, the body on this is ridiculously thick. Totally opposite the Storm King I had last night. Rich chocolate and coffee flavors. An off putting chalky bitterness on the finish, and a lingering alcohol presence. Very syrupy sweet. I still have no idea what oatmeal tastes like in a beer. Some soy sauce flavors, too. Burps are full of alcohol. Good, but not #1000 good. Not sure why Southern Tier needs this and Jah-va. I think that might be better than this.
