It smells like malt syrup and molasses and dominatingly so. Immensely sugary from start to finish. Chocolate, marshmallows and all those candies you loved when you were young and try to avoid to keep a guiltless conscience nowadays? Well this beer is liquid candy stock and I’m sorry, but it quickly becomes a burden to keep drinking. Pure syrup mouthfeel, oily sensation never kept at bay by the incompetent (or absent) carbonation. I’m impressed on how low-profile the hops are. Did they judge them unnecessary or are they just hidden beneath the black hole? It matters not since the heavy roast of bitter chocolate nature kicks off the sweets with hard burnt flavours and sets the table for a very dry and bordering chalky finish. You really, really must be in the mood to appreciate its syrupy lack of subtlety and as far as I’m concerned, I simply don’t get such moods anymore. Breadish and roasted dark malty aroma, has a dried fruit note too. Chocolate flavoured with a distinct liqourice in the finish. Gives a smooth chocolate flavour along the way and slowly leading into a nice finish with a distinct liqourice note. Flavor is malty and oaty whatever that is, notes of chocolate and a hint of coffee. Very light bitterness, the emphasis is on the oats and the malt. Alcohol is completely hidden in the flavor but you feel it afterwards! Body is super creamy in milky. Magnificent creamy brown head slowly builds from a blacker than black pour. Sheets of creamy lace add to the picture. Fresh roasted coffee, dark chocolate, licorice, vanilla, and some pepper combine for an intoxicationg aroma. Full body, light carbonation, smooth, rich, creamy mouthfeel, and a palate coating quality all come together perfectly. Balanced flavor with a treacle sweetness and just enough bitterness to dry out the finish without even a hint of harshness.
