JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Nov 11, 2007 Jet black in color, tight dark khaki head. Rousing elicits a 2-cm head that slowly regresses to the edges of the glass. Aroma is heavy cocoa, dark chocolate, and alcohol. Dark bitter malts with chocolate undertones and a slightly astringent harsh finish. May need some time to even out a bit, but still well put together. hiddenvariable (194), pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 10, 2007 bottle. pours jet black with a light to medium brown head that sticks around for a while and laces well. strong coffee and chocolate milkshake malts in the smell, with a hint of oatmeal cookie, complete with raisins in it. tastes like it smells with the oatmeal coming out a bit more. slightly bitter and quite sweet, but never cloying, and the sweetness just helps to bring out the flavors more. very tasty. a great silky mouthfeel with a good carbonation finishes it off. this is really good. 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA Nov 9, 2007 Bottle: Nearly black, moderate to thin spritzy beige head, dies rather quickly, leaving very little lacing.   Heaps of chocolate
and roated malts on the nose.   Much stronger than most I have had.   A bit of alcohol is noticeable as well.   Big rich malt
forward flavors, chocolate, black, and roasty, all come together to make this a big beer.   Very warming, the alcohol is there.   Hop
profile is minor, albeit does have a good presense.   Semi-sweet, somewhat like Dark Chocolate.   This one is hot, quite hot.
Age should do this well.   Quite drinkable as is, but guessing it will be phenominal in a year or two.   Finish is a little carob
like, with quite a bit of alcohol.   This one definitely needs time to settle down.   Although it is hot, it is very quaffable.
Lingering cocoa and carob, along with the alcohol.   Southern Tier continues to impress me with these 22oz bombers.   I think in tmie
this beer will only get better.   As is I would say this beer has a big chocolate malt base, assertive alcohol presense, with a moderate
hop bite.   Thanks goes out to Jah Noth and eaglefan538 for sending me bottles of the stuff!
Papsoe (14613), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 9, 2007 (Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of kmweaver. Pours a clear, warm, dark brown with a reddish hue and a creamy, light brown head. Fat, vinous aroma - almost port like with some raisiny notes. Very full-bodied, this pours thick and sirupy. Loads of hard roasted malts, licorice and dried fruit. Rather subdued bitterness. Lovely indeed. 021107 xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA Nov 8, 2007 Bomber as an extra from Bmartin08. Thanks man! Deep opaque black with burnt tan brown head. Aroma is deep mollases with burnt malt, sweet dark chocolate and slight alc. A warming, very dark imperial, nice alc presence, roasted malt, rich dark chocolate, very sweet, pretty intense. A very creamy, full body with minor burn. The combination of creamy full body and rich dark chocolate makes this a very satisfying and well done brew. miketd (679), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Nov 8, 2007 Pour is thick and black...Big and thick brown head. Aroma is of chocolate, biscut and caramel. Flavor- roasted malt, caramel and boozy. A bit to hot for me. Palate was good, but flavor was lacking. weeare138 (933), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 8, 2007 Much thanks to TomDecapolis for sharing this beauty...
Appears a syrupy black with a small tan head that fades into a small head. Scattered lacing is left around the glass.
Smell if of chocolate, fudge brownies, roasted nuts, caramel, mocha, and cream...luscious.
Taste is of the same with fruity notes and a deep, rich cocoa.
Mouthfeel is boozy, chocolate filled, fudgey, caramel laden, bready, sugary, full bodied, and sweet.
The only thing that could possibly make this one better is some age. Other than that, it’s really tasty. A true winner that I thouroughly enjoyed and will seek out again. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Nov 8, 2007 Poured a black with no light going through with good head and okay lacing. Aroma was malty chocolate and dark fruits. Flavor was lots of chocolate very sweet didn’t get enough oatmeal in there and the scales were tipped toward the malts with not enough hops in there.
