COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“brewed for the harvest” This beer begins in spring when oat seeds are sown as soon as the soil can be worked. Meanwhile, select types of barley are planted with hopes that Mother Nature will be kind. Our brewers wait patiently until the legumes are mature and ready for the scythe. Upon delivery to the brewery, these ingredients are mixed together in the mash tun where they steep, creating a rich molasses-like liquid. Spicy hops are boiled with the thick brew, giving balance and complexity. Brewers yeast feasts upon the rich sugars, concluding its transformation into oatmeal stout. Pour Oat into a snifter, allow its thick tan head to slowly rise, releasing unbridled aromas. The color of Oat is as dark as a moonless night. The first sip reveals Oat’s thick and nourishing taste. Like a haversack to a horse, a bottle of this stout is a meal in itself. Enjoy responsibly. 11.0% abv • 238º L

Dark with a tan head. Roasty, toasty, thick but not heavy. Had another imperial stout right before this and it is more balanced and crisp. Alcohol is well hidden. Very enjoyable.

Pours black with a nice tan head. Taste of tons of roasted malt with a thick syrup finish. Very delicious beer but not my favorite stout.

Aroma is a fairly even mix of molasses and prune. Mahogany with a thin tan head. FLavor is licorice and prunes. Body is medium, mouthfeel is viscous and like blood. I definitely prefer imperial stouts more along the coffee/chocolate vein than the prune/date vein. This is more drinkable, yet less unique than ST’s MOkah or Creme Brulee.

Aucune trace d’alcool.

On tap at the brewery, served in a pint glass. Pours hazy black with a moderate tan head. The head fades to a thin cover, leaving behind a moderate lace. On the nose, there are notes of fresh sweet and roasted malts, chocolate, oats, earth and a hint of hops. The flavour is quite sweet with roasted malts and hints of coffee, earth and herbs. The finish is long and sweet with roasty notes. On the palate, it is full in body with a creamy smooth texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a nice oatmeal stout but it is a bit too sweet for my taste. 2011-11-15

UPDATED: JAN 11, 2012 From bottle with no date. Poured into my scotch glass as it’s the closest thing I have to a snifter.

A: Pitch black with no sign of a head. Looks like flat soda.

S: Sweet chocolate with oats coming through. This smells great, sweet with a slight dark chocolate coming through. Very good!

T: Sweet chocolate upfront with a bitter thick dark chocolate coming through at the end and a nice dry finish from the oats. This is sweet, but sweet done right.

M: Thick and syrupy with slight carbonation.

O: This is really sweet, but good at the same time. There’s a good balance of sweet up front with a nice bitter dry finish. This is definitely worth trying.

On tap at the Trion Tavern. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Nice lacing. Chocolate, roasted malt, and grassy hop notes. Spicy hop flavor at the start that fades to chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt with subtle alcohol flavors at the finish. Slick oily mouthfeel with medium carbonation.
