Commercial Description:
“brewed for the harvest” This beer begins in spring when oat seeds are sown as soon as the soil can be worked. Meanwhile, select types of barley are planted with hopes that Mother Nature will be kind. Our brewers wait patiently until the legumes are mature and ready for the scythe. Upon delivery to the brewery, these ingredients are mixed together in the mash tun where they steep, creating a rich molasses-like liquid. Spicy hops are boiled with the thick brew, giving balance and complexity. Brewers yeast feasts upon the rich sugars, concluding its transformation into oatmeal stout. Pour Oat into a snifter, allow its thick tan head to slowly rise, releasing unbridled aromas. The color of Oat is as dark as a moonless night. The first sip reveals Oat’s thick and nourishing taste. Like a haversack to a horse, a bottle of this stout is a meal in itself. Enjoy responsibly. 11.0% abv • 238º L

Clear dark dark brown color with a average to large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, chocolate, oat. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is oily - syrupy and smooth, carbonation is soft. [20090128]

A pretty good oatmeal stout. Very dark color. Full bodied stout with a nice oatmeal, thick malt, and some sweet caramel or chocolate flavors as well. Bot the most complex you’ll find, but one worth trying.

2009 Bottle - Thanks skinnyguy and BrewCzar! - Pours a medium consistency, deep, dark brown, with a small tan head...aroma is dark cocoa and coffee malt, toasted grain...flavour is charred wood right off the back, black and bitter, roast and a little smoke...grainy, but just incredibly bitter up front, it mellows a bit and the malt come up as it warms, but damn...finish is a lingering charred bitterness...nice alcohol that isn’t too noticable...

22 oz. bottle from Once Upon A Vine (Fall 2008 release). Dark black pour with a tan head. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, and a hint of licorice. Rich dark cocoa with notes of bourbon and oak. Some alcohol burn but less than anticipated at 11%. Flavor is long lasting and very satisfying. This one is great.

This beer was one of the best balanced beers i have ever had. For an 11% alcohaul content the balance was amasing and it went down sooth. Oatmeal stouts are one of my favorite varialels and this one is the tops for a big beer big alchohaul style.
