COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“brewed for the harvest” This beer begins in spring when oat seeds are sown as soon as the soil can be worked. Meanwhile, select types of barley are planted with hopes that Mother Nature will be kind. Our brewers wait patiently until the legumes are mature and ready for the scythe. Upon delivery to the brewery, these ingredients are mixed together in the mash tun where they steep, creating a rich molasses-like liquid. Spicy hops are boiled with the thick brew, giving balance and complexity. Brewers yeast feasts upon the rich sugars, concluding its transformation into oatmeal stout. Pour Oat into a snifter, allow its thick tan head to slowly rise, releasing unbridled aromas. The color of Oat is as dark as a moonless night. The first sip reveals Oat’s thick and nourishing taste. Like a haversack to a horse, a bottle of this stout is a meal in itself. Enjoy responsibly. 11.0% abv • 238º L

22 oz. bottle from a Becker pint. Pours a dark black color with a tan head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma is intensely dominated by oatmeal and some rasted malts. Really dominated by oats...really tastes less like oatmeal and more like the sensation of biting into dry oats. Some light dark fruit notes dart through the finish. Interesting beer...but not one of my favorites in the Blackwater Series.

22oz bottle. Dark brown pour, chocolate milk colored foam. Aroma of burnt grains and alcohol. Tastes of charred sugars, burnt cereal, lots of booze, roasted grains, some coffee and cocoa as well. Finishes like an Imperial Porter. Roasted burnt flavors add to the harsh bitterness that remains on the palate. Big and full bodied. Perhaps the best, every day, sessionable, big and hearty Imperial Stout, you can get.

Hops upfront, though hops aren’t too strong. Black color, not overly malty, but decently malty.

Bottle bought at New Beer Distributors, New York, NY. (Brewed fall 2008 so it has a few years on it which is probably a good thing). A black coloured pour with a thin beige head on top. Sweet, oaty, roasty aroma. Tastes roasty, oaty, malty, chocolate, quite sweet. Rich, thick and heavy, another good stout from Southern Tier.

Dayum good smooooooooth beer!!! Southern Tier is the shit! They make a consistently exellent product. This particular beer is semi sweet, slighty carbonated, robust, strongish yet mild, not bitter, resin-a-plenty, gentle raisin, a tickle of vanilla and brown sugar, caramel on the nose, actual chocolate and plenty of oats to make this a close reacher. SUPERB beer. Grown man’s beer at 11%. Second fav stout behind Lion Stout and third favorite beer behind Samichlaus Classic v2009.

Poured from big bottle. Big aroma of oat, cocoa, clove, spice, smoke. Solid black, just barely a tan head. Flavors of roasted oat, cocoa, coffee, banana, pepper, dark honey. Heady alcohol fumes in the back of the mouth. Sticky feel. Sweet and bitter. A great stout, but I prefer the other stouts from ST.
