COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“brewed for the harvest” This beer begins in spring when oat seeds are sown as soon as the soil can be worked. Meanwhile, select types of barley are planted with hopes that Mother Nature will be kind. Our brewers wait patiently until the legumes are mature and ready for the scythe. Upon delivery to the brewery, these ingredients are mixed together in the mash tun where they steep, creating a rich molasses-like liquid. Spicy hops are boiled with the thick brew, giving balance and complexity. Brewers yeast feasts upon the rich sugars, concluding its transformation into oatmeal stout. Pour Oat into a snifter, allow its thick tan head to slowly rise, releasing unbridled aromas. The color of Oat is as dark as a moonless night. The first sip reveals Oat’s thick and nourishing taste. Like a haversack to a horse, a bottle of this stout is a meal in itself. Enjoy responsibly. 11.0% abv • 238º L

Bottle. Pours a black body with a coffee tan head. Chewy malty driven body with subtle oat notes, chewy caramel and chocolate malt with a moderate warming. Rounds out with a sweet but bitter coffee note. Great!

22oz Bottle Pours out a black topped with a tan head. Aroma of the 11% some smoke and plenty of chocolate. Tast of the sweetness plenty oats. WOW this was GREAT. Very thick. Thanks Jake You the man for this one.

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2008 Pours extremely thick and viscous black with a quickly disappearing finger of tan head. Unique nose for an imperial- licorice, dark fruit, slight cardamon, fig- and then standard yet near-latent notes of dark chocolate and roasted coffee. Flavor is a little more of what I would expect- dark chocolate, coffee, licorice, oatmeal, some floral hop notes. A bit of residual sugars are apparent. Body is a bit cloying but rich and apropos for an imperial stout.

UPDATED: MAR 3, 2008 750. Thanks, GoldTwins! Black. Enormous thick moussy surging burnt orange tannish head. God, what a beautiful pour. This is why Guiness sics its marketing department on surger plates and nitro widgets and "It’s alive!" slogans and whatnot. This looks beautiful--settles to a thin layer of film over an obsidian body, with sedimentary layers of woolly foam down the sides of the glass. Clearly there was barley malt involved in the brewing of this beer.
Sweet tangy candy bar nose--chocolate, roast, prunes, gently floral sweet oat notes, and molasses. Delectable.
Nice thick body, kinda sticky, kinda velvety. Nice. Not overpoweringly demanding of sippage, but not a wussy impy, either. All that aromatic business comes back around for the mid-palate: chocolate, roast, prunes, floral/oat, and molasses. Long sticky pruney/molasses finish. Great stuff. Hits my sweet tooth right where it lives.
Coming back to another bottle a bit later, this beer smells really boozy, and drinks that way a bit as well. This probably needs some time downstairs before it’s really completely drinkable.

22oz bottle courtesy of my brother, Black95tt. Thanks Ryan! Poured a very nice oily black with a roasted burnt brown head that stuck around for a while. The nose of this beer is about as expected but still very nice. Lots of roasted and chocolate malts. After the initial presence of malt comes through a nice little bit of the columbus and chinook hops. The palate was a little thin to my surprise...I would have thought it would be thicker being an oatmeal stout (I thought the jahvah was thicker). Alcohol was not as noticeable as expected, and as a side note it was listed at 11 or 11.5% on the bottle...not the 12.5 listed here. Anyways as far as imperial oatmeal stouts go this one is one of the best...but I still think I enjoy BORIS more...but its close.

Started to drink this one immediately after finishing a Choklat. This tastes like the same exact beer without the chocolate overtones. The malt is just about the same, the color is the same. The head lingers more, & the alcohol comes through a bit more in the end. It also smells a bit more sour (the oat mash?) in the end. A very, very good beer overall, but if one had to choose, the Choklat should be the choice.

Bottle, courtesy JB175. Pours blackish brown that admits a bit of light around the edges, topped by an orange-brown head. A bit of alcohol in the aroma, but the main event is the chocolate, toffee, raisins, molasses. Chewy full body, moderate carbonation. Taste of chocolate, molasses, coffee, licorice. Mildly bitter finish.

Very dark with only a small tan head forming after a rigorous pour. Aroma is licorice and chocolate right off the bat. The flavor is thick with chocolate and roasted flavors coming through.
