Commercial Description:
“brewed for the harvest” This beer begins in spring when oat seeds are sown as soon as the soil can be worked. Meanwhile, select types of barley are planted with hopes that Mother Nature will be kind. Our brewers wait patiently until the legumes are mature and ready for the scythe. Upon delivery to the brewery, these ingredients are mixed together in the mash tun where they steep, creating a rich molasses-like liquid. Spicy hops are boiled with the thick brew, giving balance and complexity. Brewers yeast feasts upon the rich sugars, concluding its transformation into oatmeal stout. Pour Oat into a snifter, allow its thick tan head to slowly rise, releasing unbridled aromas. The color of Oat is as dark as a moonless night. The first sip reveals Oat’s thick and nourishing taste. Like a haversack to a horse, a bottle of this stout is a meal in itself. Enjoy responsibly. 11.0% abv • 238º L

Draft: Dark brown. Huge, lasting mound of frothy tan foam. Refined nose of port steeped figs and black currants. Lightly earthy with hops and licorice. Viscous and oily. Immaculately conditioned with tiny bubbles caressing the palate. Opens impressively understated for its size, showcasing an array of chewy malt decadence atop an equally matched bed of fresh grains. Vivid sweep of roasted wood lends some dryness and complements the utter massiveness of this thing by hardening the body. Merely a delicate tingle of alcohol lifts some of the sweetness. Hearty molasses compounds the oiliness, but is offset by a sound foundation of burnt cookies and chocolate fudge. Finishes deceptively charred due to the resounding echoes of gooey molasses and bittersweet chocolate, as hints of unspent grains linger. Astonishingly good, and truly a meal in a glass. Thanks for sharing, cquiroga.

22oz. Bottle: Sweet aroma. Smells of roasting, smoke, dark malts, oats, and a little bit of piney hops. Poured dark black in color with a small, dark brown, head that diminished quickly. Opaque. Appeared thick when pouring. Flavor is medium sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of chocolate, chocolate malts, roasting, smoked, piney hops, raisins, and a bit of alcohol. Full body. Viscous, chewy, smooth, texture. Soft carbonation. Chocolate and piney hop finish. A very good Impy Stout.

Pours a very dark brown, almost opaque black. The aroma has a nice roastiness and the flavor is a little on the sweet side, but balanced nicely by bitter malts and some mild hoppiness.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of coffee, soy sauce, and caramel. The flavor is very sweet with strong notes of alcohol, as well as medium notes of oatmeal, coffee, roasted malt, and caramel, leading to a dry finish, where the alcohol burns the throat. Nice.

Bottle. Dark and thick, as one would expect an Imperial Stout shoudl be. The head is tight bubbles, but stops a step short of being solid foam. The aroma is kick-azz ... oily, viscuous and alcohol-laden! This drinks with a full ladle of rich, over-the-top flavors, thick with an alcohol-laden sweetness. There’s also a sweet fruitiness that hangs around, too ... kinda like a fermented fruit roll up. Interesting and intriguing and not for a light beer drinker, that’s for sure! (#3319, 2/10/2008)

black, wispy beige head, rich dark chocolate aroma with a light sweet character from the alcohol, big creamy body gets a bit sticky, rich dark chocolate flavor, touch of sweetness works to bring out more of the chocolate and turns it into a silky sweet milk chocolate, touch of licorice, roasted character comes in with the hops to keep the malty sweetness in balance, light bitter finish

Bottle. Pours a very deep black with a ruby tint and a good sized dark tan head. Aroma is ridiculously rich, with notes of charred malt, dark roasted coffee, molasses, and tobacco. Big mouthfeel. Flavour - damn, there’s a lot going on here - molasses, licorice, espresso, very dark chocolate, some hints of dark fruit and smoke, and a warm, bitter, and slightly boozy finish. Would score it a bit higher if the alcohol wasn’t so obvious in the end notes, but still, this is a pretty damn fine beer.

This Imperial Stout pours a deep black color from a 22oz bottle. Medium sized beige head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee so roasted malts. A medium bodied Imperial Stout. The malts are chocolate and coffee, a touch burnt. The hops are a touch earthy. Soft mouthfeel. Complex flavors of roasted malt, chocolate and vanilla. Smooth tasting. A touch of alcohol hotness. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
