Commercial Description:
“brewed for the harvest” This beer begins in spring when oat seeds are sown as soon as the soil can be worked. Meanwhile, select types of barley are planted with hopes that Mother Nature will be kind. Our brewers wait patiently until the legumes are mature and ready for the scythe. Upon delivery to the brewery, these ingredients are mixed together in the mash tun where they steep, creating a rich molasses-like liquid. Spicy hops are boiled with the thick brew, giving balance and complexity. Brewers yeast feasts upon the rich sugars, concluding its transformation into oatmeal stout. Pour Oat into a snifter, allow its thick tan head to slowly rise, releasing unbridled aromas. The color of Oat is as dark as a moonless night. The first sip reveals Oat’s thick and nourishing taste. Like a haversack to a horse, a bottle of this stout is a meal in itself. Enjoy responsibly. 11.0% abv • 238º L

Black with a thin beige head, Complex aroma with chocolate, toast some cherry brandy, bitter hops on the background. Very balanced between malty sweetness and bitter tones from the hops also a little salty kick. Medium body, creamy, little carbonation. Finish is long, warming and tongue-coating with hints of apricot brandy. Powerfull stuff and one hell of a beer.

Lots of flavors in there, not bland at all, but no so pleasant to drink for me, although I usually love the style. It smells a bit like those brown candy "tools", you probably know what I’m talking about. Medium body and very complex taste for this honest offering. Lasting aftertaste but there is a tartness in the taste that makes me say "I had much better in the style..."

Pours black with barely any head. aroma is mostly alcohol with some maltyness, molasses and something metallic. Taste is rich and the body is syrupy. Alcohol is very prominent with an almost vodka-like quality. Finishes very wet and roasty. A good beer but there is something off putting about it. Re-Rate: So I was a little harsh on this beer the first time around. Like a fool, I failed to notice the instruction on the bottle which clearly states that the beer should be enjoyed at 48 degrees F. Once this little number warmed up a bit, it really opened up. A delicious and pleasantly thick Imperial Stout with a great deal of flavor to offer. With the higher temperature, the vodka taste that I detected before left completely and I was able to enjoy the robust character and hearty smoothness that this beer has to offer. Kudos to Southern Tier for producing another fine ale and shame on me for lacking the patience to appreciate it.

Bottled 65cl. Aroma of caramel, rye bread and soy sauce. Wood sneaking in. Decent palate. Sweet. Not my kind of Imperial stout.

Poured from a 22oz. bottle into a stemmed glass. The color is a complete black with no light getting through with a nice foamy brown head with some nice lacing. The smell is pretty strong with oat presence and a pretty nice malty sweetness. Some hop flavor does come through on the second go around. The taste is a sweet with a biscuit feel. There is some nice mixing of a bitter hop and a bit of a sweet maltyness that really comes across quite well. The feel of this beer pretty easy drinking and has a medium body to it. This does have a bit of a kick but it an Imperial Oatmeal Stout. A really great beer.

Black in the glass with zero head. Tiniest lil gauze of lace, but zip, zilch, nada for a head. Nose is roasted malty goodness and alcohol. Maybe some oat lingering. Dark and rich. Taste is deep and rich as well. Big full mouth with lots of movement in the mouth. Flavors travel. First big dark fruit sweet to vanilla. Then deep roasted coffee, to a high bitter finish. Mouthfeel is missing the carbonation. Judging from the other reviews/ratings, this bottle is a little bit off. Might have to try this again some time.

Deep brown with tan head. Aromas of molasses, spice, cinnamon and oatmeal. Creamy palate, maple and molasses in the taste, oatmeal cookie, bitter chocolate finish
