COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With the onset of winter, the brewer’s mind turns to providing warmth. For our winter seasonal, Southern Tier offers Old Man Winter Ale, a rich and complex amalgam of hops and barley that will put the feeling back in your toes and lift your spirits above the snow. Old Man Winter throws a deep and inviting hue with a thickness that clings to the glass and the warmth of an open flame. Because of its high alcohol content, Old Man Winter is a heady brew that encourages sipping and pondering its essential richness. Drink it fresh now, or cellar some bottles to see how this old man becomes wiser with age.

Dark brown semi-transparent body with some head and some lacing. Aroma of cocoa and hops, though not a prominent aroma. Taste is quite bitter and roast. A bit unusual for an old ale- certainly not a traditional british style old ale anyway. Abv well masked. Enjoyable but nothing too interesting here really.

Light copper point into snifter. Creamy off white head. Good balance of caramel maltiness with citrus and pine notes. A winter IPA, could use a higher ABV.

pours a clear copper color with a thick creamy off white head that leaves lots of lacing. the aroma is floral hops and bread. you can also pick up some mild spices but they are more prevalent in the taste. the taste also consists of floral hops. there is quite a bit of bitterness but not overpowering. i would never guess this beer is 7% abv because it is such an easy drinker.

Pours a deep clear copper with a thin ivory head that clings to the glass. Floral aroma. Flavor begin with malty sweetness that gives way to a spicy fruitiness and resinous hops. The finish is warming. Thick reach mouthfeel. Full body with moderate carbonation.

Draft. This is much lighter than other old ales i have tried. It has a nice depth of flavor though.

12 oz. bottle. Pour is a caramel amber, clear with a nice off white head. Smell is spicy piney hops and a nice roasted caramel presence. Taste is similar, kind of like a malty IPA. Good balance of malt and hops, kind of light in strength for an old ale, which would make me question aging it as the description suggests. But over all a nice peppy winter ale that isn't drowning in nutmeg or cinnamon. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
