sprinkle (111), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Jan 11, 2006 Bright orange/gold in color. Decent head and lacing. Sweet carmelly nose with a nice amount of hops as well. Rich upfront, mid and finish. Malts really come through than a nice balance of hops that linger with a slight alcohol tingle. Long lingering finish.
noncaloric (111), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Sep 29, 2008 Summary: Smells wonderful, but a bit boring to drink. Aroma: Yeasty funk, coriander, cloves, dark fruits, really adds to the anticipation of the beer. Appearance: Dark brown, red highlights, thin beige head, no lace. Flavor: After the delicious aroma, honestly disappointing, somewhat sweet, raisins, undifferentiated malt flavors, fading towards a bitter coniferous finish. Palate: Very mellow, but tending towards watery. mgumby10 (1650), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA Sep 18, 2008 POured a clear copper colro, with a smallish off white head. Smelled of rich caraamel malt and subtle hops, mixed with a little dark fruit. The mouthfeel was a tad bit watery right away. Carbonation was good, but it was a little thin. Flavors of sweet dark fruits, a little bready yeast, and malts all seem to blend together, but overall was a pretty uninteresting brew. A little toasty in its finish, and wasnt lacking on flavor, just a little in its complexity. Nothing offensive, but found it a bit boring. phishpond417 (1459), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Sep 14, 2008 Pours a dark clear mahogany colour with a small tan head. Aroma is nutty with hints of smoke and wood. Taste is nutty also, toast, black berries and oak. Nice beer, rich with plenty of roasted malt flavor. 00cobraR (969), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Aug 26, 2008 pours out a clear deep amber color with a smaller white head. aroma had a nice amount of caramel and hops. flavor was very much the same with a somewhat spicy finish. Overall I enjoyed this one beerbill (1316), Laurel, New York, USA Aug 1, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear dark amber brown with a moderate linen white head that lasted through three-quarters of the glass and left partial lace. Light aroma of malt and pine. The malt is weak and watery in the flavor and cannot compete with the bitter astringency of the pine. The pine also lacks the resinous body. Rather, it is just bitter and thin. The bitterness lingers for about ten seconds beyond the swallow. This is not something I would re-visit. I think this is one of the lowest ratings I have given a ST beer.
