COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With the onset of winter, the brewerís mind turns to providing warmth. For our winter seasonal, Southern Tier offers Old Man Winter Ale, a rich and complex amalgam of hops and barley that will put the feeling back in your toes and lift your spirits above the snow. Old Man Winter throws a deep and inviting hue with a thickness that clings to the glass and the warmth of an open flame. Because of its high alcohol content, Old Man Winter is a heady brew that encourages sipping and pondering its essential richness. Drink it fresh now, or cellar some bottles to see how this old man becomes wiser with age.

Bottle. Copper. Dark malts, biscuit and toast with caramel, some nice hoppy bitterness. Good stuff all around. Southern Tier doesn't disappoint. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear darkish amber with a thin off-white head. Surprising yet delightful earthy leafy hop nose with a quiet earthy biscuit/nutty malt. Smooth flavor with a big nutty malt with some slightly spicy and somewhat herbal and earthy floral dry hop flavor. More bitter than sweet with a sturdy leafy tone but the maltiness has a nice sweet nuttiness underneath it all.

Pours a slightly hazy copper colour with a 1/4 inch white head that left thin lacing. Had some tiny floaters. Aroma is of caramel , sweet malts, pine, and a trace of alcohol. Flavor is sweet malt, fruit, citrus and pine hops with a moderate to assertive bitterness. Medium bodied with light carbonation.

Points off for a less than appealing color to clarity, but otherwise excellent. Well masked alcohol content. Tastes like Christmas!

Bottle. Pours copper with a thin head. Aromas are floral hops and apricot. Flavors are apricot, honey and biscuit with a sturdy hop backbone. Finishes with caramel and ginger. Slightly oily mouthfeel, but also peppery. Overall, this isnít bad, but itís not a terribly memorable winter ale.

Pours a slightly hazy ruby hued dark copper with some very fine particles floating around. Has a finger of off head with good lacing. Aroma is somewhat sweet with some caramel, toasted malt, and a bit of citrus and pine. Taste is moderately malt forward with a bit of sweetness. Toasted bread crust flavor as well as some herbal tea. Also a balanced amount of citrus, herbal and pine hop flavor that provides a moderate level of bitterness and even a hint of spicines. A slight hint of alcohol. Finishes semi dry with a bit of piney bitterness. Mouthfeel is somewhat slick with a medium body and moderate/high carbonation. Well put together and balanced winter ale with good complexity.

Pours a deep amber color, mostly clear, and small tan head. Aroma is sweet with caramel and toffee hitting the nose. Taste follows that with caramel and toffee in the malts, also some breadiness, and hints of floral hops. Iíve had this many times, first time rating it. Itís always a tough one for me to drink and two would be my max. It knocks me on my ass for some reason.
