COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With the onset of winter, the brewer’s mind turns to providing warmth. For our winter seasonal, Southern Tier offers Old Man Winter Ale, a rich and complex amalgam of hops and barley that will put the feeling back in your toes and lift your spirits above the snow. Old Man Winter throws a deep and inviting hue with a thickness that clings to the glass and the warmth of an open flame. Because of its high alcohol content, Old Man Winter is a heady brew that encourages sipping and pondering its essential richness. Drink it fresh now, or cellar some bottles to see how this old man becomes wiser with age.

The color of this beer a slight reddish brown with a minimal off-white head that disappears quickly, and the aroma is yeasty and has a touch of nutmeg. The taste is quite sour, a touch bitter, and slightly umami but is nothing too special; also, the palate has a medium body, a soft carbonation, long finish, and a oily texture.

Bottle from Village Wine and Spirits in Athens. Mild piney hop nose. Bright reddish-brown color. Hop-heavy initial / mid palate goes to an unusual twisting back and forth between the hops and the malt; sort of a balancing act? / hops remain on the tongue for a bit. Medium body. Very nice stuff. But pretty damn hoppy for a winter ale.

Smell of bread with a hint of bitterness. Dark amber colour with a tiny head that disappears quicker than santa on xmas eve. Sweet tasting, malty but balanced with some nice pine bitterness at the end. Not a very exciting beer, but will keep my spirits up and keep me warm on a winter day :) ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
