Commercial Description:
When Phin and Matt sat down to collaborate on their new beer, they knew it had to be different if they were to call it extraordinary. "Let sprinkle it with fairy dust and wave our magic wands," said Phin. "No way," said Matt, "We've got to do better than that. This beer has to be better than any other in the galaxy." "Let's do some market research." So the two strapped on their rocket pack packs and traveled to the intergalactic beer store. After sampling an array of beers from acrossed the galaxy, the duo hit on an idea. "I've got it" exclaimed Matt, "we'll use vast amounts of whole hops, the finest malt, and put a little more love in every batch." "Eureka!" shouted Phin. And thus became a beer so fresh and tasty the duo put their names on it. 37 IBU's, 5.6% ABV

Bottle. Pours a clear golden with a firm white head. Good lacing. Sweetish and crisp pine hop aroma. Malts in the background. Bitter, hoppy flavour. Finish is bitter hops with slight notes of sweet liquorice. A good beer, but a bit one-dimensional, and feels a bit thin now and again. 07-11-09.

Best beer in the galaxy? Not really. But a very crisp IPA (APA? Give me a break) with a nice taste of hops.

Bottle, bought @ Ølbutikken, Cph.
Pours golden with a good deal of bubbles reaching towards a firm, creamy, white head. Grapefruity aroma, good deal of aroma hops, some caramel sweetness behind it. Lowish carbonation, fine, dry mouthfeel. Flavour is nicely hoppy, very dry. Some caramel and bready malts with just a hint of liqourice. Very refreshing. Nice.

Bottle. Pours a darker golden body with a white head. Grassy fruity citrus and peach notes, with a lighter malt bill. A lighter citrus and peach note to finish. Good stuff.

Pours a cloudy, light amber color with a thin off-white head. Aroma is of citrus and pine hops with caramel and a hint of sweet malts. Flavor starts off with the floral and pine hops that give way to the sweet malts. Finishes bitter with citrus hops. Another delicious brew from Southern Tier.

Rated while drinking: Pours pure golden with a small vibrantly white head and a tiny bit of lacing. Fruity hop aroma with an emphasis on mangoes or tangerines. A little backbone of malty aroma too; bready. Flavor actually reminds me of their Harvest Ale. Must be a similar hop selection. Compared to the intense flavor profile found in the Harvest Ale, this is much more toned down. Tangerines in the front and aftertaste. A bit of malt comes in near the end to give it some pretty nice balance. Palate is a bit watery with some carbonation on the tongue and some bitterness near the end. Very drinkable though. A nice beer for what I consider to be Southern Tier’s flagship.

Southern Tier Phin & Matts Extraordinary Ale 12 oz bottle Medium pour in stein Brewed summer/fall 06, ordinaired 02/07 Poured a clear amber with a medium frothy somewhat diminishing white head. Smelt of medium/strong hoppy grass and leaves, with light sweet caramel. Taste was upfront strong bitter autumn leaves and grass and medium to light caramel followed by more bitter hops grassy bite and a light sweet caramel and bitter dirty water bitterness. Palate was light to medium bodied, lively carbonated, and watery. Overall, this is a watered down hot summer day variation of a Sam Adams Lager. Watery and simple yet good flavors. Ordinary in an extraordinary way.

Pours a light gold color with some streams of lacing. Aroma is floral and citurs consisting of tangerine and some leafy hops. Taste is up front with a mix of tangerine and mango, followed by some smooth malts, and finishes with some bitterness bite. Really quite enjoyable.
