4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Iím liking Southern Tier more and more with each new beer I try. This stuff poured gold from the 12 oz bottle with a thick head and lotís of lacing. Aroma is hoppy pine and sweet malt. Tastee is very well balanced, nice and hoppy. A really good beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a clear bronze with a thin, but nicely-lacing white head. Aroma has a nice hoppy presence and a touch of sweet caramel malt. Body starts semi-sweet with some nice fresh hoppy assertiveness, but fades toward dullness in the finish. A crisp, drinkable beer, but sort of a let down after the aroma and first sip. Thanks to slob for the bottle.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours a light clear yellow color with a small amount of fizzy white head. Not much in the way of aroma...a little sweet, a little hoppy, but not much of either. Flavor is quite bland too. Malty with a sprig of hops. Overall, a very very average beer.

Boooooring. If you want to drink a whole lot of beer and wonít drink budweiser, get this. Itís plain and inoffensive. Definitely drinkable, in that I finished the 6 pack with no complaints, but I barely noticed. Utterly average American pale ale.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: SEP 12, 2011 Bottle: Hazy orange with a thin white head, huge grapefruit/orange aroma, starts and ends bitter, full bodied with an orange aftertaste. Smells more like an IPA than a pale ale, but who am I to complain.

Extraordinary this is not - not much going on here except the minor hop profile and some bread-like qualities with nothing grounding it or holding the flavors together - high carbonation only accentuates the missing flavors.

Bottle. Quite an aggressive piney hoppiness in the nose of this with a bit of pepperiness. Very aromatic. Transparent copper color with nice frothy off-white head. Nice roasted caramel malts in the middle backs up the peppery hoppiness to start. Finishes bitter with some pine notes. There seems to be a void in this beer. I remember the harvest being more aggressive and flavorful than this. This is still very solid. Iíd like to try the two side by side to really see if there is any difference between the two, though.
