3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
650 mL bottle. Looks the part, with a small beige head. I wouldn’t know that there are plums involved fom the nose, but there is a hint in the flavour. It actually adds a little depth to what is already a pretty solid porter. Maybe a touch on the sweet side, but that is to be expected from Southern Tier.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
First bottle of beer since coming back to NYC. Earthy, tobacco, a bit spicy. Maybe not plum? I absolutely love it and the price for the bomber at FoodTown was just right. Will buy again often.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle: Poured pitch black with red hints at the edges, the head was light brown and about inch. However it crept back down the sides of the glass to leave lacing and thin layer. Aroma is dark fruit, chocolate, and caramel. Taste is bitter chocolate and plum fruit, warms up and leaves strong malt.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz bottle. Very dark brown. Light tan foam. Very blackwater series looking. It’s smell is exactly what the description says. Roast and plum wine. Nose improves as it warms. Layers & layers of fermented plum. Flavor of fruit, and whoa... Roast. Finishes with loads of roasted grains, burnt toasted bread (w/o the bitterness), hints if licorice. Overall dry body, sweet notes. (3791)

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
draft, not what I was expecting at all. More of a porter taste than plum, well balanced and complexity in this brew. Mild sweetness, hints of caramel, coffee, roasty, earthy flavors. Good brew, worth another.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 5/1/2013. Pours nearly pitch black color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big milk chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, toast, plum, brown bread, nuttiness, light coffee, floral, light pine, and toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with all around great balance of plum and malt notes with some light hops; and good strength. Taste of big milk chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, toast, biscuit, plum, nuttiness, light coffee, floral, light pine, and toasted earthiness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, toast, biscuit, plum, light coffee, light pine, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt flavors with plums; with an awesome fruit/malt balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a silky and smooth mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent fruited imperial porter. All around great balance of malt and fruit notes with light hops; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering as expected of the Blackwater series.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
I bought this for my wife thinking it would fruity and heavy on the plum/wine taste. Not the case! This is a very nice and slightly bitter porter. I love the chocolate malt aroma and the deep dark pour that has a tiny white head and leaves some lacing. The taste is creamy and rather smooth. Something seems to mellow the bitterness out - possibly the plum? Quite nice!
