Plums are a diverse group of species, with somewhere between 19 & 40 varieties depending upon whom you ask. We’re using what we consider to be the best to brew with. the Italian plum has beautiful dark skin & the flesh is perfect for fermentation. Plum Noir’s mild sweetness is derived no necessarily from the many malts we use. A bit of plum flavor is present as well as earthy, toasted grains, & hints of caramel with mild coffee overtones.

Dark brown pour with tan head. Aroma of toasted caramel and a bit of dark fruit. The taste wasn’t as sweet as I anticipated. The body was a bit weak but roasted bittersweet finish. Not as much plum as I was hoping for

June 26, 2013 - 22 ounce bottle from Zipps. Black pour with some head that faded quickly. Aroma was chocolate, hops, coffee and caramel. Taste was roasted malt, smoke, chocolate, mild caramel and slight bitter finish. Some carbonation and medium bodied. Did not get the plum and wanted this to be more wine like, disappointed.

From a bomber. Pours dark opaque brown with a tho. Fizzy tan head. Smooth light body and very drinkable. Slightly bitter and very mild coffee taste. Hints of plum. Low carbonation. Smells like plum and mild mulling spices.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a slight ruby tint and thick, frothy beige head. Aroma is chocolate and roasted malts, earthy hops, plums, raisins, and faint vanilla. Flavor is dry, roast malts forward with supporting dark fruit esters, light ash, and some chocolate bitterness; dry finish. Medium body and low carbonation.

Bottle like the one pictured pours jet black with a thin cream colored head. Nose reveals some caramel, smoke, and a quick waft of plum. Taste begins with some roasted coffee, slight sweetness comes mid sample, and finishes with a quick splash of chocolate. Body is big but slick. Not bad but give me Mokah or Jav-ah instead.

Very nice dark brown near black pour with decent dark tan head. Slight chocolately notes on the aroma, with a faint roastiness. Flavor is roasted and toasted and just as the bottle suggests, has caramel and coffee overtones. I don’t really pick up any of the plum, unless I really search for it and I think that is just as a semi-fruity sweetness that almost comes off as a little medicinal. Kinda meh in my opinion.

Draft. Poured black with a thin tan head. Aroma and flavor are lots of roasted malt, mild coffee and chocolate, a bit earthy, some faint fruit -- wouldn’t have guessed plums. More like raisin maybe? Alcohol is well hidden. Moderately sweet, mildly bitter. Quite nice.

Pours black with a lasting brown head. Aroma of black cherries, toast, roasted barley. Taste of dark, but not burnt malts with a nice plum, earthy fruitiness. Nicely balanced.

Poured a dark brown, almost black color with an off white head. Dark fruits, very light plums (but not as much as the name would imply), roast, and some caramel.
