Bomber. Dark brown with red and a beige two finger head. Dark fruit dominates the aroma and it is on the sweet side. The flavor begins with an unexpected harshness. The feel is powdery. I do taste the plum and a lot of grain with roasted notes. Out of nowhere some chocolate pops up. That was the theme throughout, plum grain, roast, and chocolate. It was nice but didn’t quite get where I had hoped it would.

Pours a very nice dark ruby red with a tan head. Aroma on this beer is huge. Aroma smells of dark stone fruits, anise, plum, chocolate, caramel. The taste is Bitter Cocoa nibs, Chocolate syrup, Roasted Caramel, Honey, Milk chocolate, Tart Fruits, and then a strong plum finish. Nice big beer.

bottle at home from alesela
Earthy fruity notes on the nose, but not discernibly plums, dark hazy brown with lacing beige head. Full bodied, medium carbonation fruity, chocolate and a dry finish.

Decent porter. Doesn't stand up to the likes of founders porter though. Dark with thin beige head. Nose is dark malts. Flavour is coffee dark malts and some bitterness.

A super solid porter, nice roasted malts, good chocolate notes, even a little bit of bitterness to round it out, the plums were a little too cloying sweet, and far more of a sweetness than a plumness per se.

On tap at Craft Clerkenwell. Now I love Southern tier. Black beer thin tan head. I always expect an assault on the senses. This is ok but doesn’t deliver the big takeover I expected. A little watery in the mouth for a 8% beer. Decent fruit. Maybe not enough malt backbone. And served way too cold. A little musty. Maybe an old keg. Hmmm.

Pours tar black with no head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, and plums. Flavor of roasted malt, chocolate, with mild plum notes at the back end. Good beer.

I loved the concept of this beer, but the execution was flawed. It has porter character, and plum, but they don’t mesh very well. It’s hard to explain why, but the plum just seemed tacked-on, and it came across as a decent but lackluster beer. It was pretty light in the palate, which was strange since I was expecting a rich & decadent beer.

draught@Erzbierschof - quite clear yet very dark brown beer with a modest foam; roasted cofeeish aroma, solid with notes of ashes and black chocolate; some notes of plums below; low carbonation and full-bodied; dry and toasted aftertaste of ashes and plums; gently bitter

Bottle. Clear bronze pour with a finger of beige head. Dried plum, ume, caramel, roast. Light to medium body with clean slightly sweet yet deep finish. Easy to drink and very complex.
