Plums are a diverse group of species, with somewhere between 19 & 40 varieties depending upon whom you ask. We’re using what we consider to be the best to brew with. the Italian plum has beautiful dark skin & the flesh is perfect for fermentation. Plum Noir’s mild sweetness is derived no necessarily from the many malts we use. A bit of plum flavor is present as well as earthy, toasted grains, & hints of caramel with mild coffee overtones.

22 oz. bottle. Deep brown with ruby highlights/ black in the center. Nose is mild sugar plums and shoe leather.

Soft carbonation gives a smooth flat mouthfeel. Faint plum upfront, cocoa and pumpernickel bread. Raisin and weak red gape notes. Body is about right for the style.

Easy to drink without doubt. Well made but not really memorable either.

Bootle, 22oz. At Christianssand Brygghus. A more or less black one, topped by a dense, beige head. Roasted malts, coffee notes, some licorice, a faint sour hint and some dried fruits in the aroma. Nice carbonation, full body and semi dry on the palate. Lots of flavor, but perhaps lacking a bit on complexity. Licorice, roasted malts, coffee and dried figs in the flavor. A nice bitterness too. Lasting finish. A tasteful beer that hides the alcohol well. Worth a return. 140321

Bomber. Dark brown with red and a beige two finger head. Dark fruit dominates the aroma and it is on the sweet side. The flavor begins with an unexpected harshness. The feel is powdery. I do taste the plum and a lot of grain with roasted notes. Out of nowhere some chocolate pops up. That was the theme throughout, plum grain, roast, and chocolate. It was nice but didn’t quite get where I had hoped it would.

Pours a very nice dark ruby red with a tan head. Aroma on this beer is huge. Aroma smells of dark stone fruits, anise, plum, chocolate, caramel. The taste is Bitter Cocoa nibs, Chocolate syrup, Roasted Caramel, Honey, Milk chocolate, Tart Fruits, and then a strong plum finish. Nice big beer.

Earthy fruity notes on the nose, but not discernibly plums, dark hazy brown with lacing beige head. Full bodied, medium carbonation fruity, chocolate and a dry finish.

Decent porter. Doesn't stand up to the likes of founders porter though. Dark with thin beige head. Nose is dark malts. Flavour is coffee dark malts and some bitterness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A super solid porter, nice roasted malts, good chocolate notes, even a little bit of bitterness to round it out, the plums were a little too cloying sweet, and far more of a sweetness than a plumness per se.

On tap at Craft Clerkenwell. Now I love Southern tier. Black beer thin tan head. I always expect an assault on the senses. This is ok but doesn’t deliver the big takeover I expected. A little watery in the mouth for a 8% beer. Decent fruit. Maybe not enough malt backbone. And served way too cold. A little musty. Maybe an old keg. Hmmm.
