| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 11, 2009 Southern Tier in Des Moines? Things just keep getting brighter! This beer pours a nice deep dark ruby red, I really doubt that this is the "darkest" beer that Southern Tier makes, don’t they do Imperial Stouts? The head is fluffy and leaves a great lace all the way down the glass. Aroma is fairly faint with some roasty coffee and some berry like fruitiness, what’s there is good but you’ve gotta get you’re nose in the glass pretty hard to get much, which is kinda lame. I like the flavor tons of big roasty coffee a mild smokiness and a good hop bitterness with a little bit of that dry bitter rye flavor, pretty tasty. The palate is creamy and somewhat silky with a mild wateriness. KimJohansen (6917), Copenhagen V, Denmark
