Commercial Description:
Porter is our darkest beer, but not necessarily our strongest. It is widely held that the darker the beer the stronger the beer, but this is summarily false. The contribution of color comes directly from the color of malt that we use. Some malt is roasted to achieve dark color and coffee-like flavor, which in turn get transferred to the beer. Our Porter is richly complex with overtones of chocolate and espresso beans followed by a subtle flavor of hops. It’s a nourishing beer without being too sweet or filling.

12 oz. Opaque chocolate with a small lasting disc of foam. Aromas of coffee and caramel. tastes of caramel, coffee and light char. Light-medium body is watery, a little too fizzy and roasty-dry.

Light. Bit of roast, but not intense. Nothing like the other Southern Tier beer. An actual normal porter.

Slightly sweet, roasted aroma. Pours an almost opaque ruby red with a dusting of light tan head on top. Strong notes of coffee and chocolate, with a bit of sweetness inside. A bit thin mouthfeel, with a nice clean bitter finish. A very drinkable Porter.

Southern Tier in Des Moines? Things just keep getting brighter! This beer pours a nice deep dark ruby red, I really doubt that this is the "darkest" beer that Southern Tier makes, don’t they do Imperial Stouts? The head is fluffy and leaves a great lace all the way down the glass. Aroma is fairly faint with some roasty coffee and some berry like fruitiness, what’s there is good but you’ve gotta get you’re nose in the glass pretty hard to get much, which is kinda lame. I like the flavor tons of big roasty coffee a mild smokiness and a good hop bitterness with a little bit of that dry bitter rye flavor, pretty tasty. The palate is creamy and somewhat silky with a mild wateriness.

Dark brown with a medium beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, caramel and chocolate notes. Flavour like wise and it finishes sweet.6
