Commercial Description:
Porter is our darkest beer, but not necessarily our strongest. It is widely held that the darker the beer the stronger the beer, but this is summarily false. The contribution of color comes directly from the color of malt that we use. Some malt is roasted to achieve dark color and coffee-like flavor, which in turn get transferred to the beer. Our Porter is richly complex with overtones of chocolate and espresso beans followed by a subtle flavor of hops. It’s a nourishing beer without being too sweet or filling.

Pours almost black, the deepest mahogany, into the glass, with slight ruby hues to the fringes. The tan head is absolutely huge, and leaves a nice froth cap all the way down the glass. Roasted smoky malted nose. The flavors are somewhat dry, of dark malt, some slight chocolate, with some roasted coffee and light smoke in the finish. Nice creamy mouthfeel, with some nice carbo levels. A different take on the traditional porter, but a nice offering that is well-integrated.

Bottle. Pours a rich dark brown with creamy tan head. Aroma is coffee with smoke. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, and smoky wood. Thin mouthfeel, very little carbonation. Decent. I could use a little more sweetness in this one.

very nice smell, roasty immediately, has hints of chocolate & coffee. Very dry finish. A little thin for what is billed as a Dark Porter.

Poured from a bottle a dark brown color. Tan head which faded quickly. Smell of chocolate, coffee and black malt. A burnt roasted dark malt taste with a nice dry finish.
