Commercial Description:
Porter is our darkest beer, but not necessarily our strongest. It is widely held that the darker the beer the stronger the beer, but this is summarily false. The contribution of color comes directly from the color of malt that we use. Some malt is roasted to achieve dark color and coffee-like flavor, which in turn get transferred to the beer. Our Porter is richly complex with overtones of chocolate and espresso beans followed by a subtle flavor of hops. It’s a nourishing beer without being too sweet or filling.

Bottle: Cola-esque pour with a frothy head. Sort of got the steamed vegetables aroma off of this one, ew, some dark chocolate in the flavor and a misplaced sense of fruit cloaked in burnt coffee. Would like a re-rate, not sure what was up with this one.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at Three Cellars in St Francis, WI. Pours a semi-clear dark brown brew with a thin off-white head that dissipates to a thin white ring. Aroma of toasted dark malt, some chocolate, roasted nuts and a touch of coffee. Taste is medium bodied with flavors of toasted dark malt, some floral hops, chocolate and some dark pitted fruits. Finish is a little thin with a short lived toasted dark malt aftertaste.

(Sample Date: 11/1/2008 Source:Other) Grainy toasty and slight roast aroma. Clear dark amber brown with small tan head. Medium body and mouthfeel. Roast malt flavor is nice with a slight toasty and nutty character. Touch of grain astringency. Hints of dark fruits. Fairly dry clean finish with low earthy hop bitterness.
