Swalden28 (1442), McKinney, Texas, USA Jan 23, 2009 Bottle thanks to Bu11zeye. Pours a deep, dark brown with beige head. Aroma of dark roast, some chocolate. MaltDawg (778), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jan 22, 2009 (Sample Date: 11/1/2008 Source:Other) Grainy toasty and slight roast aroma. Clear dark amber brown with small tan head. Medium body and mouthfeel. Roast malt flavor is nice with a slight toasty and nutty character. Touch of grain astringency. Hints of dark fruits. Fairly dry clean finish with low earthy hop bitterness. mwelsh13 (483), Maryland, USA Jan 16, 2009 12oz bottle pours black wuith a creamy tan head. ROast aroma with some chocolate. Burnt grain flavor with a slight dry bitterness. Medium body with no sweetness. Not bad. Middle of the road. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jan 16, 2009 Bottle on 11/01/2008. Vas19 (293), Maryland, USA Jan 15, 2009 From bottle. Classic roasty malt and chocolate porter aroma. Flavor is more roasted malt with good carbonation. A little watery, but solid overall. Braudog (3733), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jan 11, 2009 This is a gigantic beer. Pitch black with a gi-normous head of solid tan foam. The aroma is sweet chocolate, but subtle. This drinks with a thick chocolate-milky goodness, exceptionally well balanced between a robustly flavored brew and an easily quaffable brew ... this is all good! (#3477, 11/2008)
DrnkMcDermott (1832), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA Jan 9, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Nice smell of chocolate-roasted malts from the start. Pours black with bubbles on the side and a very thin head, but less fizzy than a cola. Taste has some assertiveness for a porter, with bitter coffee roast notes and more than a bit of hops in it. Dry finish. Just a little lacking in complexity. Well carbonated despite its appearance. Some coffee aftertaste. Not quite a session beer, but a meaty filler-upper for the thirsty. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Dec 30, 2008 Coffee and light chocolate on the nose. A deed brown almost black pour with tight tan head and lace. Creamy chocolate flavor that almost has a milkiness to it. Good bitter finish not to strong about just right. Creamy texture and mouthfeel very nice carbonation. A very solid porter.
