Southern Tier Porter

12oz bottle from andersons in toledo. dark brown pour with a small tan head. light roasted chocolate and coffee in the aroma. light but somewhat chewy texture. taste is roasted malts - little bitter hops - kinda woody - some acidity.

Sample at the Hopsnobbery Collective Porter tasting at Dogbricks on 12/4/08. Pours dark brown with a big tan head. Aroma of blackberry, malt and some coffee. Flavor of steamed asparagus with a coffee finish. I hope this is a bad bottle and it doesnt always taste like this.

12oz bottle-pours a rich light brown head and black color. Aroma is dark malt-chocolate/anise, vegetal, some earthy hops. Taste is dark malt-ashy/tar, vegetal, secondary earthy/woody/chicory hops. Not my taste. Full body. Thanks decaturstevo for picking this out.

Poured from a 12oz bottle and served in an English pint glass. This beer poured a sleek, near-black with some mahogany highlights around the edges of the glass. A thin head of tan foam quickly faded away, leaving little lace. The aroma included freshly gound coffee, milk chocolate, and some caramel. Mildly roasty. The flavor contained some moderately bitter coffee and roasted malt, along with a balancing hop bite. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied and had light to moderate carbonation. Not bad. A pretty standard porter.

Bottle. Pours a clear deep brown with no head whatsoever. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and a hint of smoke. Flavor of coffee, bittersweet chocolate and toffee. Very watery texture and weak finish. Not a great effort from a very respectable brewery.

Out of a Southern Tier variety pack as the "mystery beer" Listen up, whoever doesn’t like this has issues. . . What can you say ? A Porter with just enough hops to balance out the finish to make this a great porter ! Pours with a great dark color, the head wasn’t really there, just a tiny head but with nice color. . . Great malt flavor with, a dash of chocolate and a touch of dark coffee. . . The after taste just got me thinking, wow, i thought porters were so so. . . . but not this one !

From bottle. Part of January Dayton Beer Tasting event. Pours dark borwn/black with tan head. Simple malt aromas mix with coffee. Tastes include chocolate, espresso and a hoppy finish. Decent but not a standout.
