Taste: mouthfeel is medium taste is chocolate and roasted malt with a bitter back end. Pretty standard, nothing exciting, and kind of weak. Additional notes of cocoa powder and burnt mini wheats. satan165 (541), River Grove, Illinois, USA Nov 27, 2008 aroma of some roast but not much. color is dark but still translucent, filthy orange around the edges. flavor has some roast but almost no bitterness. little to zero chocolate/coffee. mouthfeel is decidedly thin. a disappointment to even call this sessionable. true, its lack of challenge makes it prime for repeated drinking but its lack of character makes it too irratating for this drinker. McGarnigle (303), Rochester, New York, USA Nov 2, 2008 Bottle, nearly black pour. Smells like chocolate liqueur or something. Medium body with lots of small bubbles. Roasty flavor, touch of charcoal, slight sweetness. Not highly rich and some cola-like notes come through. Straightforward sessions porter. TheBeerGod (3143), Newport News, Virginia, USA Nov 2, 2008 Bottle. Midnight black. Small tan head. Aroma is that of dark chocolate, hops, light licorice, and cold coffee. Taste is equally bitter and chocolaty. Strong roasted malts, licorice, big hops, cold coffee (particularly a dark oily coffee), and dark bittersweet chocolate. Body is medium with a full carbonation. Very bubbly with a lingering bitterness. Finishes with more bitter hops, strong, bitter coffee, dark, bittersweet chocolate and licorice. I’m with ElGaucho - not terribly interesting and probably my least favorite ST beer thus far. ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Oct 24, 2008 Bottle. A very familiar aroma, but one that is odd for a beer. Took me a second to realize it was that of chocolate milk, and perhaps specifically Bosco flavored milk. Really doesn’t smell like beer at all. Mostly opaque with reddish hues faintly evident. Some lace. Thin tan head. Doesn’t taste like chocolate milk. Considerably drier tasting than promised by the aroma. Somewhat chalky in the finish. Not at all heavy; more interesting than Guiness, but not much more so. Perhaps my least favorite Southern Tier brew. stangger (155), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 21, 2008 Updated: Oct 23, 200812oz bottle. Dark brown pour. Aroma of caramel, roasted malt. Taste is actually very sweet, with caramel dominating heavily. Little bit of alcohol/bourbon at the end. Very creamy ! daknole (2805), Plantation, Florida, USA Oct 18, 2008 bottle from dkachur. Almost a black pour with a small whitish head. Smells of chocolate, coffee and a little bit of styrofoam peanuts(??)...Flavor is of coffee and a hint of something a tad odd or artificial. Roasted malts are all over this one too. Pretty nice finish, a bit of a hop bite. DrDavid (957), Johnson, Vermont, USA Oct 15, 2008 (Bottle). Tart roasty aroma. Dark reddish-brown body, creamy brown head. Well blended flavor of coffee, chocolate, some tart hops. Nice finish.
