shintriad (698), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 11, 2008 Dark reddish-brown. Sweet with chocolate, malt and roasted notes. Fairly full body with some bitterness noted in the finish. Could use less carb and more slickness. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA Jun 11, 2008 6-9-08 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to prototypic
Dark black brown pour with a beige head and sticky lacing. Smell is malt and pecans and cake. Flavor is malt with a touch of hops. The hops are present, yet light and subtle. Palate is slightly above average for me - medium body and it isn’t awfully thin. Overall, a pretty decent porter. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Jun 9, 2008 Bottle thanks to prototypic in trade!
Pours black with transluscence and ruby edges and a small medium lived beige head. Smell is smooth, creamy roastiness with light chocolatey flavors. Taste is roasty with a touch of bitterness, and some chocolate flavors too. A bit dusty and dry and with the flavor of cocoa powder. Medium to slightly rich bodied with light prickly carbonation and pretty solid overall. Noticeable bitter hoppy or roasty, chalky bitterness in the finish. Nice. Bungalo22 (326), Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA May 12, 2008 Poured into pint glass and it poured black but the head was small and it left quickly with little to no lacing. I pulled some roasty chocolate and coffee smells with a hint of liquorice. It had a medium sweetness and was actually lightly bitter. It had a heavy body - as is to be expected - creamy, thick feel, soft carbonation and a finish that stuck around. A good porter but it was missing on the total experience of flavors. MrBeerFanatic (345), jamestown, New York, USA May 12, 2008 I liked this porter but there wasn’t very pronounced flavors. Poured a dark brown and light brown head. You can taste coffee and chocolate malts with a hint of hops. Needs to be slightly more sweeter. Glouglouburp (2782), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 11, 2008 In short: A light porter. Roasted with some black liquorice. Not offensive but lacking character. One among so man others
How: Tap at Blue Tusk (Syracuse NY)
The look: Black body with a little beige ring of foam.
In long: Light medium body. Roasted malts with no real taste. No chocolate, coffee, of fruity flavours. Just plain roasted malts feeling like liquefied burnt cereals. Ok, maybe a hint of black liquorice but that’s it, nothing else. Very simple. No sweetness which is surprising considering this is a Southern Tier brew. Kind of a surprise (an unpleasant one) to drink such a conventional beer from a brewery that usually goes over the top (sometimes with disastrous results). This beer felt like watching a sweet family-friendly romantic comedy staring Tom Green. Not bad at all but when you rent a Tom Green movie you want a donkey penis and a banana split… in the same shot. StFun (535), Indiana, USA Apr 28, 2008 A *damn* good porter. Nice and dark. Not overly thick. Not the most complex brew in the world, but not simple either. Roast and malty. A little thin. Armoa leaves a little to be desired, but the flavor is very nice and balanced. Hints of chocolate and barley. Never feels weak, very drinkable. Need to grab this one again. tomthompson89 (1460), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 26, 2008 nnice dark brown slight ruby notes, good white foam, nose is big malts , some choc. Flavor of dark malts again nice choc, some nuttyness and espresso. dry finish good beer.
