Aroma is strongly fruity, slightly roasty, hoppy, piney, with some chocolate underneath. Taste is chocolatey, watery with a quick finish. The body is a bit thin for me. Certainly not one of the better examples of the style or the brewery. Viper666 (619), Greenfield Park, Quebec, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 2, 2008 Pours pitch black. Tan head that falls fairly quickly. Sickly sweet nose that has some borderline molasses characters to it. Gets dusty after a bit. Flavor is thick with malts, but not complex I would say. It is just robust, deep, and very thick. Nice malty characters just abound on this one. Feel is pretty thick on the liquid and low on the carbonation it seems. Very drinkable porter indeed. No wild flavor profiles here, just a nice smooth deep one. blipp (1641), Newark, New Jersey, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 25, 2008 Bottle. Pours very dark brown with a thin tan head. Roasted malt nose with mostly coffee notes, some chocolate. Medium/full body with a bittersweet flavor. Notes of roasted malt and chocolate. Pretty enjoyable. tgncc (809), Bellmore, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 17, 2008 Decent porter, far from the best. The nose is the nice roasty aroma one would expect, and it has an attractive dark appearance. The flavor left me wanting; it wasn’t very sweet or roasty, as I had expected. It actually was a tad dry. Also, the body wasn’t as thick as I expected. The porter was a little light in some ways. The palate was also a little disappointing. Overall a decent beer, but not a great porter. ogglethorp (887), Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours black with a smallish tan colored head. Aroma is chcolate, coffee, toffee. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, toffee. Palate is medium bodied, mildly carbonated, finished roasty and bitter. Rock solid. xmarcnolanx (792), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 14, 2008 This color throws me. I think they have to put "dark" on the bottle to reinforce the fact that this is a "dark" beer.
Light mahogany, wisps of a tan, cola head.
Aroma is cocoa and red fruit, with some sugar and caramel in there.
Taste is rich cocoa, touches of smoke, light bitterness.
Palate is touches of fizziness and dull cocoa that lingers for a good, long time.
This thing is really drinkable with touches of bitterness.
The only detractions I could see to this beer would be its fizziness, its slightly lighter color, and lack of head retention.
However, this is a freaking solid beer.
