zebracakes (1214), Washington DC, USA Sep 16, 2007 Bottle. Pours dark ruby brown, thin off white head. Aroma is molasses, anise, malt, rosemary. Flavor is coffee, pine, earth, anise, seaweed, very dry. vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Sep 14, 2007 Pours very dark brown with a crimson hue and tight dark tan head. The aroma has malt balls, vanilla, cream and toasted malt. Medium body with some slickness and a nice subdued carbonation on the finish. The taste starts with effervescence and dark toasted malt (not quite roasted). There are also raisins, cream and vanilla. The finish is a bit sharp with some spicy hops. A respectable porter. GG (1612), NorCal, California, USA Sep 14, 2007 Sitting down to watch MNF, Ravens v Bengals. Popped this open and not sure what to expect, since I don’t get beers from Southern Tier in my neck of the woods. Poured the beer out into my Maudite glass and after emptying the bottle, the beer formed a nice one-finger thick tan head. The body of the beer was medium black in color, dark brown highlights on the edges. The aroma was nicely roasted coffee beans, subtle dark chocolate hints...toffee as well. Nothing extravagant, but solid. Flavor is full flavored with coffee, charred bread, powdered chocolate, with a subtle punch of hops. Mouthfeel was a bit thin, too carbonated for my liking to receive a higher mark but still entirely drinkable. A nice beer. Recommended. emobassfoo (178), Webster, New York, USA Sep 12, 2007 Rated while drinking: Pours a dark ruby color with a thin milk chocolate head that doesn’t leave too much lacing. Roasted coffee and malt aroma with something sugary or caramel-like in there. Rich chocolate and roasted coffee taste! Aftertaste is definitely dominated by coffee. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a bit of an oily feel near the end. A really nice porter from ST. Surprisingly thicker than I thought. ST variety pack is a great pick for price. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Date: 08/27/2005

black, whispy tan head, sweet carmal and chocolate aroma, rich chocolate flavor, just a hint of sweetness to bring out the chocolate, a touch of bitterness in the finish, a great rich chocolate porter with maybe a bit too much bitterness in the finish

Dogbrick (2813), Columbus, Ohio, USA Aug 30, 2007 On draught at Kennedy’s On The Quays. This beer is a dark brown color with a medium light brown head that has decent retention. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of cocoa and milk chocolate along with bits of coffee and malt. Medium, glassy smooth body with sweet chocolate and roasted malt flavor. Very little bitterness. The finish is sweet at first with a mildly bitter hops aftertaste. Lacks robustness that would put it in the "very good" category. This is a actually kind of a letdown considering their other beers are solid. Cartoonkhaki (1149), Brantford, Ontario, Canada Aug 21, 2007 On tap at brewery. Dark amber brown colour with tan head. Strong malt aroma. Malt, with light chocolate, rosted coffee flavour light bitters on back of tounge, medium body not too watery. EithCubes (2140), Indiana, USA Aug 18, 2007 Bottle. Sweet roasted malt aroma with grapefruity hops raised up to balance. Pitch pour with a tanned, lacing bubbly head. Nice, strong roast overtones in the taste. Nutty with mild berryish fruit. Grapefruit and coffee. Lightish-medium body, creamy smooth dryish finish. Not the best porter to style, and not the best porter, but still, there’s something really nice here.
