Aromas of chocolate, roast, caramel and hops. The taste had a nice balance with a good bitterness. The finish was a touch sweet for me, but I like beers that are dry. Overall another good brew from ST, worth a try. ElBorracho (472), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 30, 2006 Updated: Jan 12, 200710/30 12 oz bottle pours a dark black with a soapy tan head that quickly fades down. Pretty weak roasted chocolate aromas. Thin bodiy and thin flavors of chocolate toffee carmel coffee and roast. As these flavors quickly fade there’s a really nice creaminess that peaks and is actually the best part of the beer. This finishes bitter and dry which are also rather nice, too bad the aroma and flavor had to suffer so much to get there. ...... 1/11/07 rerate: I enjoyed this much more with a couple months on it. The flavor and aroma come out much more: simple chocolate, roast, a little sweet, nice amount of bitterness. Not great but a decent porter. Scubatrip (388), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Oct 21, 2006 On tap, pours black with a thick off-white head. Smells and tastes more like a pale ale than a porter. Very bitterly hoppy to the taste, though finishes with a bit of chocolate and a hint of coffee flavors. Not a big fan of this one. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 12, 2006 Nice deep mahogany body with a slender head that manages some fine lacing nonetheless. It’s got an appetizing aroma of Coffee, lightly roasted barley, and a whisp of smoke. It’s a bit thin, but tasty, a touch of cocoa and a mild earthy bitterness added to the fray. Decent.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 10, 2006 Good looking pour...though I generaly would like to see a more robust head. The nose was an amalgam of chocolate and espresso with a nice bittering in the finish. Somewhat flat in mouthfeel...not exactly a plus in my book! I would repeat this, if only to see if there might be a problem with the bottling line...Thank you, my friend...El_Borracho.
