Commercial Description:
Porter is our darkest beer, but not necessarily our strongest. It is widely held that the darker the beer the stronger the beer, but this is summarily false. The contribution of color comes directly from the color of malt that we use. Some malt is roasted to achieve dark color and coffee-like flavor, which in turn get transferred to the beer. Our Porter is richly complex with overtones of chocolate and espresso beans followed by a subtle flavor of hops. It’s a nourishing beer without being too sweet or filling.

Brownish red body capped with a slightly dirty colored white head. Wierd aromas. Kind of roasty, with some sweet maltiness and some burnt notes. Really burnt flavors. Quite homebrew-like. I hope I just happened to pick up a bad bottle.

Bottle. Small tan head that mostly diminished, fine-small sized bubbles, poor lacing, nearly opaque, fizzy carbonation, and a dark brown hue. Aroma was malty, coffee, roasty, chocolate, hint of hops and fruit. Flavor was malty, coffee, roasty, chocolate, bitter, and some hops. Mostly smooth mouthfeel. Light-medium body. Drinkable, but not outstanding IMO.

12 oz bottle: Deep brown, almost opaque w/ a lasting light beige head. Rosty coffee at first with chocolate notes right behind it in the aroma. Some bready anc chocolate chip cookie dough malts as well. Hints of vanilla and a bit of herbal hop when swirled. Flavor is decidedly roasty, but well balanced and not overpowering. A bit on the sweet side @ first, but thoroughly well balanced at the finish with a roasty nutty flavor and mild coffee aftertaste. Some hints of chocolate in between. Light hints of dark grain acidity at first, but fades when swallowed. Smooth m/f, Lighter medium body, low medium carbonation. Nice and tasty! This might even be a good starting point for novices, but still has enough flavor for more advanced palates.

Draught: dark brown with a fluffy tan head. Toasty, slightly charcoaly aroma with a clean, crisp bitterness. Well developed palate with a slight fizz, but thick with chocolate, nuts and darkly toasted grains. A bit of coffee and berry fruit sweetness, finishes a pretty tasty porter.

Aroma very coffee. Flavor very espresso, rich coffee tones. Not very sweet for a coffee beer. The coffee was actually very over powering as I could only get through half of this beer.

From bottle. 4-26-06
Poured very dark. Fast dissipating, bubbly off-white head. Aroma of malts and coffee. Flavor roasted coffee, and caramel in the back. Sugary aftertaste, with a every so slight bitterness. Thin to medium bodied. Mouthfeel chewy in a sense. Not bad, but def. better than last time I had it, that could be my palate. Dry finish

Nice aroma, chocolate, burnt biscuits, a little bit of hops. Dark brown, thin tan head. Flavor matches the aroma, chocolatey with some biscuit flavor, roasty finish. Medium body, easy drinking. Very nice session beer.

Bottled. Very good porter. Pours dark, almost black, with a brown head, that stays for awhile. Aroma is good, detectable coffee & chocolate. Coffee & chocolate come through strong in the taste, too, and gets heavier as it warms. Finishes slightly hoppy. Good stuff.

Poured black with a creamy light-tan head. Aroma is faint chocolate, fruit. Taste is thin and overly bitter coffee with very little else. Drinkable but very bland.
