Commercial Description:
Porter is our darkest beer, but not necessarily our strongest. It is widely held that the darker the beer the stronger the beer, but this is summarily false. The contribution of color comes directly from the color of malt that we use. Some malt is roasted to achieve dark color and coffee-like flavor, which in turn get transferred to the beer. Our Porter is richly complex with overtones of chocolate and espresso beans followed by a subtle flavor of hops. It’s a nourishing beer without being too sweet or filling.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a large diminishing rocky off-white head. Nice bubble action. Aroma smells great! Roasted malt, coffee, hops and cocoa. The flavour isn’t anything to scoff at either: the floral hops, chocolate, roasted malt & coffee add up to one great, hoppy porter! Palate has a light bitterness and the texture is nice and creamy. A very enjoyable porter, I have no idea why this isn’t rated higher. Recommended!

Had this at the Flour City Brew Fest. Very dark with a roasted aroma. Malt body with a bit of sweetness and light hops finish. Rerate 2/01/06 I enjoyed this alittle more than before.

Clear dark brown in color with a taller tan head. Dark coffee aromas with a mild vinous acidity. Hints of DMS and nuts. Perhaps a touch thin in feel, but it seems to work. Quite dry, with plenty of roasted malt and and a touch of dark chocolate. A mild hops component that adds a mild citrus touch. Thanks Santa.

Bottle from sampler. Great smelling porter. Elements of coffee, baker’s chocolate, cherry and a slight minty sensation all in the nose. It has a very roasty and a very smooth mouthfeel. The flavor is a bit thin, especially when compared to the nose, but has the ubiquitous coffee, chocolate and roasted malts. But, the finish is oh so smooth. For a porter, this is pretty good, and it’s must be even better in the dead of winter.

12oz bottle - Gained via trade with Sregnar35 Thanks Bill - Pours brown with an offwhite head. Aroma is not very strong slight chocolate and weak hops. Flavor is quite weak as well. Mostly hops come through in the flavor. Slight chocolate flavor as well, but what is most notable is the watery palate to this one. I really drank this whole brew wondering if it should be classified as a porter. It seems more like a dunkel to me. There are so many better porters out there than this one..

Cocoa and espresso notes in the nose; rather weak bodied; heavey roasted flavor with soy sauce notes; not very impressive

About right for a porter, IMO. Roasty, but not over done. Good balance. I would like to try this one on tap, not nitro however. This porter is on the bitter end of the porter-spectrum.

Another good brew from southern tier. Nice dark beer, little head. Lightly sweeter than other porters, but it all comes together.
