KyotoLefty (1371), Kyoto, Japan Sep 6, 2009 Bottle. Dry, slightly roasted, slightly bitter and yeasty aroma. Flavor also dry and roasted bitter with coffee and chocolate hints. Not much sweetness, and also body rather light with high caronation. Ok but the malt is not very impressive. gunnfryd (3539), Kristiansand, Norway Sep 6, 2009 Bottle. Slight aroma of darkly roasted malts, ash, must, cocoa and some faint raisin. Dark brown-black color with a very fine, off-white head. Flavor is roasty, sweet and mildly bitter, with plenty of dark chocolate throughout, along with touches of toffee, smoke, licorice and earthy, grassy hop. Lingering, drying, grainy bitterness late. Low in effervescence and a bit thin on the palate, body is medium. Decent Porter, perhaps not overly impressive, but passable. Bov (5403), Bienne, Switzerland Aug 27, 2009 from crackedkettle.com - dark brown colour with a rubish hue; little beige foam left; deep aroma of pralines, cold ashes and vanilla; medium to full malt body, a fair sweetness and carbonation; a moderate late bitterness; long chocolatey finish yngwie (4880), Kristiansand, Norway Aug 25, 2009 Updated: Aug 30, 2009Bottle. It’s a dark, dark, reddish brown beer with a minimal beige head. The aroma is big but not intense, with charcoal, dark coffee, cocoa and a faint chalky, milky touch in the background. Wonder if an infection is going on, even though the pour didn’t give that impression. The flavor suggests the same, still it’s pretty damn good, with lots of coffee, chocolate, heavily roasted malts and some hoppy and roasted bitterness. Full-bodied, quite smooth and pleasantly carbonated. The finish is lasting, with the hoppy bitterness lasting for the longest time, and there’s also lots of dry, dark coffee and some sweeter chocolate. Even though there’s some disturbing aromas and flavors, it’s a quite lovely beer. Would certainly like more of this one. 090825 bierkoning (5989), La Tropica, Netherlands Aug 24, 2009 Bottle. Dark brown color, pours a huge head. Milk chocolate, raoast and ash in the aroma. Creamy flavor with ash, roast and chocolate. Soft ashy roastbitter aftertaste. Well made porter.
